Denzel blows Affleck off the screen with a tremendous range of emotion enabled by his mastery as an artist and vastly superior writing. “If it ain’t on the page it ain’t on the stage”. Mel Gibson directed a masterpiece and the Brits gave the film only an editing award? His film is much bigger in scope and much more difficult to direct than any other nominated film. Affleck’s role did not deserve to be nominated period. Maybe the foreign press (how much did they get paid off?) influenced the Academy members that forgot what the craft of acting and filmmaking is all about? They won’t allow stunt coordinators to be recognized even when the biggest grossing films are action and garner billions at the box office using the lame excuse there isn’t enough time on the program to fit them in. But they have time to let Chris Rock sell girl scout cookies for 10 minutes and go to a theater in Compton to ask black people if they watched films made by white filmmakers. Raise up. The ethics of the Academy have gone away and must be restored. Stand in truth justice and harmony.

Manchester by the sea in my opinion was mediocre at best, Affleck’s
performance was one note and he mumbled the entire film. Who cared about any one of these abysmal characters? Williams by far was the best performance in it. She demonstrated heart, soul, conflict, despair, pain. love and passion in one scene. The film was a slice of life that had no beginning middle nor end, was poorly edited and directed. It is the directors responsibility to tell a compelling story and guide the actors and the editing. The edit was confusing and scenes were out of place on the timeline. The fact that the Academy would recognize such mediocrity is a testament to the lack of artistic integrity they demonstrate by adding 5 nominations to the best picture category purely to attract more sponsors in hopes of attracting Studio Capital sponsoring the business of tent pole films in their mass marketing and merchandising plan. - cadavra
