Boardwalk Empire alumCharlie Cox is poised to play the title character inMarvel’s 13-episode seriesDaredevil, set to premiere onNetflix in 2015, sources confirm. The project was written by executive producer Drew Goddard, with Steven S. DeKnight just hired as executive producer/showrunner.Daredevil is the first of four 13-episode superhero series set in the Hell’s Kitchen neighborhood of New York City, which Marvel is producing for Netflix. It will be followedbyJessica Jones, Iron Fist andLuke Cage, with the characters from each show then coming together for an Avengers-type superhero teaming in a chapter-closing miniseries. The character of blind superhero Matt Murdock/Daredevil most recently was played on the big screen by Ben Affleck. Blinded as a young boy but imbued with extraordinary senses, Matt Murdock fights against injustice by day as a lawyer, and by night as the super hero Daredevil in modern day Hell’s Kitchen. The casting reaffirms Cox’s drama series leading-man potential, something CBS brass strongly believed in, casting the British actor as the lead of two consecutive pilots,The Ordained last season and John Cusack’s Wall Street project this season. Unfortunately, neither went to series. It is possible that Marvel can’t announce Cox because he hasn’t been formally released from the most recent CBS pilot.UPDATE 6 PM: Marvelofficially announced Cox’s casting.

I hope they do this as a crime drama with sci-fi elements, rather than as a “superhero show.”
- I used to like Marvel
That drawing is by the Marvel COO, Joe Quesada. He’s the creative force at Marvel. I’d like to congratulate Marvel in that they would have done Walt Disney proud by coming into the fold and taking their edgy characters and making them bland and palatable for the non-comic book reader. I so looking forward to the Mickey Mouse/ Iron Man team-up. I mean, really, isn’t ToonTown in the Tri-State area?

The rendering on that drawing makes it look like DD’s secret weapon is a red megaphone attached to roll of toilet paper.
- Comic Reader
You obviously have no spatial perception for 2D drawings.

Funny, because the word of the day is OVER-SATURATION. Seriously…FOUR new Netflix series based on Marvel characters? I like Charlie Cox, Daredevil and all of the creatives behind this so far, but would rather Netflix keep taking risks on quality series like Orange is the New Black and House of Cards. Come on, Marvel…this is way too much. Let’s save the superhero stuff for the big screen where it can still feel like an “event.”
- John James
Ur calling him bland and then suggesting an even blander alternative. Lol. Oh the irony.
