UPDATE: No surprise there –NBC has pulled the plug on the low-rated sci-fi dramaThe Event, which started off strongly but quickly fizzled. But there is a twist, and it’s not only the big surprise planned by the producers for the finale. Talks are underway with at least one distribution partner to take over the serialized drama. The Event executive producerSteve Stark wouldn’t comment, but I hear new original programming playerNetflix‘s name tossed around. Word is that there has been interest from several cable and digital entities. Stark said that they are exploring the opportunities with the “full support” of the studio, UMS. “NBC has been an amazing partner, it launched the show beautifully,” he said. Added creator Nick Wauters: “We have a dedicated fan base, and we promised them we will deliver one way or another and will continue to tell our stories.”

NBC is stupid for cancelling the Event. Remember how a network also cancelled the original Star Trek? These guys at the network only look at the short-term profit margin and don’t have a clue when they have a winner. Let’s face it – the Event was a rare intelligent series that got many hooked and wanted to see more of it becuase it made you think, which is a rarity these days in the network programming arena. This show was intelligent and attracted intelligent people. Dumb people watch dumb mindless shows – intelligent people watch shows like the Event. Bring it back and keep the story going. I want to know what will happen after the end of season 1.

just watched the entire first season on netflix and wow I cannot believe that no one would pick this show up and run with it…..absolutely amazing and once again a damn shame the networks let a great show go.

NBC is notorious for airing shows for one or part of one season & cancelling it with their viewers left hanging. I never watched “The Event” for this reason. I saw previews for The Event & was like “Wow, that show looks really good. I can’t wait to watch it.” Then saw it was on NBC & said, “Well, I guess I won’t be watching it afterall.” Let me just say, I AM GLAD THAT I DIDN’T! This just went to prove to myself that I was right…. never again get entangled into a NBC show for they will just can it anyway! Way back in the early 2000’s after cancelling Invasion (without giving it any sort of ending & leaving the story line way open), then again with the “rebirth” of Bionic Woman, then finally Medium, I gave up on this network & refuse to watch any of their shows. I’d advise all of u to do the same! I even stopped watching “The Biggest Loser” because I was & still am fed up with NBC & their lack of respect for their viewers. NBC has forgotten that it is us, the viewers, who are the ones that are buying the products from their sponsors. Maybe one day NBC will start thinking of us & not just their wallets when making rash decisions for their shows. Until then, I will continue watching TV without programming in on their channel. I will keep yearning for the day they pay attention to their viewers voices so I don’t miss out on the shows that have potential (as I’m sure “The Event” did). I won’t hold my breath, I promise. ;)
