Synopsis for "Blackest Night"
DuringBlackest Night in this universe, Sinestro had joined one of the New Guardians who fought againstNekron and had received the power of aWhite Lantern. Instead of sharing the power he had been given, he decided to keep the power for himself. Unable to control the ring's power by himself, Sinestro and the New Guardians failed to stop Nekron from killing the Life Entity. Nekron killed the remaining Lantern leaders and resurrected them, forcing them to join the Black Lantern Corps. Deciding that he could not live with his actions he tries to commit suicide, however, his body instead fused with the White Lantern's life and the Black Lantern's corruption and disappeared.
Days later, he came back to Earth, findingDove andLobo fighting off a corrupted version of theTeen Titans. Sinestro drove the group away and explained how his ring led him to Dove, who he predicted was immune to the Black Lantern's influence. The group left Earth and arrived onTakron-Galtos six days later, finding the corruptedNew Gods, includingBig Barda, led byGranny Goodness. The group attacked the trio asMister Miracle redirected them into a room, locking themselves from the other New Gods. Scott explained to them that he had used the planet's bank to hire Lobo and told them his plan: to use Dove to transfer the energy of theSource using hisMother Box plus the life energy from Sinestro's White Lantern ring to order to resurrect those under the influence of the Black Lanterns. After the group agreed to the plan, they used the Mother Box'sBoom Tube to travel to theSource Wall.
Sinestro and Scott Free began setting up Dove as Lobo covered them from behind, but another Boom Tube opened from behind the group. Out from the Boom Tube came the corrupted New Guardians, his daughterSoranik, the corrupted New Gods, andDarkseid, who had become the Avatar of Nekron. The battle began as Lobo started ripping through the corrupted army before Darkseid'sOmega Beams exploded him, which caused him to multiply into duplicates on himself. Sinestro fought off the corrupted versions ofHal Jordan and Soranik and unleashed the White Lantern's life energy into the two, temporarily giving them back their lives. Sinestro felt sorry for what he did to Hal, admitting that he hated him because his willpower exceeded his and how he only had fear because he would always be better than him. Shortly after, they were brought back as Black Lanterns and Lobo ripped through them.
Scott told Sinestro that the time was now and Sinestro transferred the life energy from his White Lantern ring into Dove as his skin began to deteriorate. Urged by Darkseid to join the Black Lanterns, Sinestro remembered what he had sacrificed and regained his life energy back. As Dove had been murdered by Scott once he discovered that the plan's success would destroy all the Black Lanterns, including his wife, Big Barda. However Sinestro realized that the regenerating cells of Lobo could also be used to complete the plan and successfully completed the plan to eradicate the Black Lanterns. As new life was birthed throughout the universe Sinestro saw that all of the new species had inherited Lobo's savage bloodthirst and warlike tendencies. In his despair he tried to escape his universe and enter a new one by tearing through space-time, but the hole was sealed off by theTempus Fuginaut who did so to prevent it or the blighted cosmos from polluting the main universe. Once he's finished, Fuginaut notes he has seen the true blackest night as it is one where the broken worlds go tumbling into the bowels of the dark multiverse where no bright Lanterns shall ever shine.
