History
Pre-Flashpoint
When two entities known as the Brothers (the embodiments of both theMarvel andDC Multiverses) remembered each other's existence, they pitted combatants from their respective realities against each other together. The winner would then destroy the loser (and its own respective multiverse). To prevent this from happening, theLiving Tribunal and theSpectre joined forces and combined the two universes together, creating the Amalgam Universe. This universe had its own unique history which was a combination of the histories of both multiverses.
With the help of the hero namedAccess, the Living Tribunal and the Spectre managed to separate the two realities once more and the Amalgam Universe ceased to exist. Later, one of its heroes,Doctor Strangefate, would return and attempt to revive it; while Strangefate was defeated, it would ultimately be allowed to continue in its own pocket reality, which was given to Access for safekeeping.[3]

Post-Flashpoint
The Amalgam Universe was revealed to be still existing in2021 after both the cosmic upheaval caused byPariah merging the rebornPre-Crisisrealities intoMultiverse-1 at the climax of theDark Crisis[4] and another attack of theAnti-Monitor on theInfinite Realities.[2] Days later,Earth 0Flash/Barry Allen journeyed to this universe, currently designated asEarth 1996.[2]

- Marvel Encyclopedia: Fantastic Four originally designated the Amalgam Universe asEarth-692; it was eventually re-numberedEarth-9602 inOfficial Handbook of the Marvel Universe: Alternate Universes 2005.
- From theDC Comics' point of view,The Essential Wonder Woman Encyclopedia originally designated thePre-Flashpoint iteration of this world asEarth-496 in its entry onAngelica Wallis.
- ThePost-Flashpoint iteration of this reality is known asEarth 1996 which is obviously a nod to1996, the release year of theDC Versus Marvel crossover event which led to the birth of theAmalgam Comics imprint.
