Body
This FG-AI4AD comes at a time when road traffic injuries are the leading causeof death. There is a clear need to ensure AI innovations are focused oneliminating this global epidemic. The FG-AI4AD is established as a multi-stakeholder group open to participationfrom anyone, including governments, academia, industry, NGOs, SDOs and otherinterested parties. Participation is free of charge. I’ve attached the agreedBackground and Terms of Reference which covers the tasks, activities anddeliverables. The objective of the Focus Group is to support standardization activities forservices and applications enabled by AI systems in autonomous and assisteddriving in accordance with the 1949 and 1968 Convention on Road Traffic. Thework of this FG links closely with the UNECE Global Forum for Road Safety (e.g.WP1, WP29, GRVA) and progresses will be shared with such committees. The FG aims to establish a universal minimal performance threshold for AIenabled driving functions (such as AI as a Driver) which is essential tobuilding the global public trust required for widespread deployment of AI onour roads. It is important to define such a minimal acceptable performance threshold forAI deployed on our roads and meet the minimum public expectation that; 1. AImeets, or exceeds, the performance of a competent & careful human driver 2. AI never engages in careless, dangerous or reckless driving behaviour 3. AIremains aware, willing and able to avoid collisions at all timesWe would like you to join and contribute to this international platform, withother stakeholders, to lay the foundations for making roads safer worldwide. Please find the FG-AI4AD webpage at:http://itu.int/go/fgai4ad<http://itu.int/go/fgai4ad>
