FOUNDER OF EQUAL JUSTICE INITIATIVE
CTU’s highest award, the Peacemaker award, honors national or international leaders whose accomplishments and commitments reflect the values of the Catholic Theological Union mission, in the areas of reconciliation, justice, and serving the common good.
We honor BRYAN STEVENSON, recognizing his faith-rooted activism as founder and Executive Director of the Equal Justice Initiative, and his career-long dedication to helping those who are poor, incarcerated, and condemned. At this time in the history of America, we are inspired by the visionary anti-poverty and anti discrimination efforts that challenge inequality in our country that Stevenson has initiated including the creation of two highly acclaimed cultural sites: the Legacy Museum and the National Memorial for Peace and Justice.
We have been inspired by his call for people of faith to join you in the critical “prophetic and necessary Christian witness in the world we need so desperately” in political and the cultural social spaces.

TRANSFORMATIONAL EDUCATOR
The Diakonia award is derived from the Greek word for service to honor outstanding local leaders who have provided exemplary service to the Chicago community.
DONNA CARROLL, EdD is a transformational educator who served as the President of Dominican University for 27 years, growing the undergraduate student body three-fold during her tenure. Donna continues to transform institutions of higher education through her dedication to education for students of color, her pledge for closing the equity gap, and her focus on education as an accelerator of social mobility.
