The new Craftsy.com will launch sometime this week.

Many crafters and craft instructors were saddened to learn in late May thatNBCUniversal had decided to shut down Bluprint, the video-on-demand site originally called Craftsy they’d purchased and rebranded three years prior. Then, things seem to turn around on July 1 when TN Marketing, a niche video-on-demand company based in Minneapolis, bought the Craftsy assets, promising to preserve them for users. Now, that day is just around the corner.

The newCraftsy.com will look familiar to most users. All of the classes that customers had purchased when Bluprint closed will be in their accounts at launch. TN Marketing decided to revert back to the Craftsy brand, rather than sticking with the short-lived Bluprint moniker. There will be both a subscription and an a la carte model. Subscriptions will be available monthly for $7.99 and annually for $79.99 and individual courses will be $39.99 with frequent discounts down to $29.99 and $19.99.

A few changes

One major difference will be the addition of advertising on the new Craftsy site. TN Marketingruns ads on all of their niche video-on-demand sites and Craftsy.com will be no different.

Another major deviation from the original Craftsy is that there will be no pattern marketplace. Before the NBCUniversal buyout, Craftsy had a robust marketplace where designers could sell their patterns to customers with no transaction fee. After Craftsy became Bluprint, the marketplace was drastically cut back so that only a very few patterns remained. TN Marketing is not planning to have a pattern marketplace at all, at least not at launch, citing the technical challenges involved in setting something like this up.

TN Marketing is also not planning to have a retail shop like Bluprint and the original Craftsy had. Sourcing, staffing, warehousing, and shipping supplies at scale is a whole other sort of business that they are not prepared to take on, and therefore they didn’t purchase these assets when they bought the brand. Instead, they’re looking at offering more classes on DVD. TN Marketing currently offers classes on their other niche video-on-demand businesses on DVD and they feel there’s a strong opportunity to bundle online Craftsy courses (either a la carte or subscription) with a DVD at a higher price point. They may offer a limited selection of notions and some kits as well. In addition, they’re looking to partner with existing craft retailers to offer their subscribers discounts on craft products.

Going forward

At launch, there will not be an affiliate program in place, but there are plans to use ShareASale to build one out in the coming months, similar to the program that Craftsy had in the past. In fact, the affiliate manager who worked at Craftsy and Bluprint is now working at TN Marketing and will be managing the program.

TN Marketing is working on creating social media accounts for Craftsy. The @becraftsy accounts were pointed to @bluprint after the NBCUniversal buyout. Getting those straightened out is going to take a little more time.

TN Marketing does plan to continue to produce new classes once conditions for gathering are safe again. They’re hoping to begin in the fourth quarter of 2020 and the first quarter of 2021. New classes will focus on the most popular subject areas on Craftsy including sewing, quilting, knitting, and crochet. TN Marketing classes use multiple cameras and good lighting, but the process is different from producing a traditional Craftsy class (see a few examples of a TN Marketing classhere andhere). Classes will be filmed at TN Marketing’s headquarters in Wayzata, Minnesota, a Minneapolis suburb. TN Marketing is launching a new vertical focused on art and it looks as though the art-focused content may go there in the future.

A course page with customer questions below.

When Craftsy became Bluprint the expectation of instructor interaction with students dramatically decreased. TN Marketing will not be bringing that expectation back. There will be a Q&A associated with each class, but it looks as though some questions may be answered by the TN Marketing customer service team, rather than a back and forth between the instructor and the student.

The TN Marketing acquisition closed on July 1. Since then they’ve migrated 1,500 classes and 23,000 total assets from Bluprint/Craftsy to the new site. They’ve loaded 8 million class units into over 1 million buyer accounts. The new site looks to have a fairly simple homepage, with plenty of the familiar Craftsy orange and a clean design. Look for it sometime this week.

Signed on yesterday and the reply is it will take upwards of 75 days for my previously purchased content to make its way back onto my account….so definitely not ready right away. Perhaps others are having better access luck than I am!

Thank you Abby! They should bring the patterns back, for designers to sell. I know of a lot of pattern designers who made money from Craftsy pattern sales. I wouldn’t expect them to do it for free, like the original Craftsy did, but it would be nice if they allowed designers to sell, plus they could take a cut of the sales. I found, and wound up uploading and selling patterns on TeachersPayTeachers.com, plus there I also sell on Craftsuprint.com in the UK, that sells, worldwide, cards, paper crafts, sewing patterns, and other digital download printables. I was really hopingthat Craftsy would bring back pattern downloads. Take care Abby!

I purchased the monthly subscription yesterday; However, the 275 classes purchased via Craftsy/Bluprint are not showing up in my account. One concern that I had is that when I signed up yesterday. I noticed that there was not a security lock on the order page. I’m not sure who to notify about that faux-pas; but, it does need to be corrected. I was so excited to see that they were back I figured I would go ahead and check and see. After, I had already put my card information in, and just as I went hit the enter button, I noticed that there was no security lock on the orders URL page. Take my advice before you order make sure that feature get’s fixed. I have been sweating bullet’s since I placed my order. Moreover, I have double checked my email several times; neither did I receive a sales receipt, nor welcome to Craftsy. I would strongly advise everyone wait a bit until they are ready for prime time. Oh, I almost forgot! Most of the quilting classes I purchased are not available at this time on the new website. Many of the free classes we downloaded via Craftsy/Bluprint are on the website; but, they are no longer free… My advice is to wait a few weeks before you subscribe.

Cheryl Davin I have been a member of the original Craftsy and Blueprint and am very pleased to be able to continue as a member of the new TN Marketing Craftsy. One question I haven’t been able to get an answer to is; Blueprint owed me 5 free
forever classes from when I signed up with them last year. I was entitled to 12 free forever classes when I signed up for a yearly membership with them. I have used 7 of these free forever class credits but am still owed 5 free forever classes from them which I hadn’t picked out before they closed down with virtually no warning. I was wondering if TN Marketing will allow me to use these 5 free credits to pick out 5 free forever classes to add to my library of forever classes. I’m sure there are other members who are in the same position as me. Kind regards Cheryl

Cheryl Davin; yes I am in the same position as you – Besides problems with Blueprint I have yet to receive my coupons for the 9 class coupons in my transfer to Bluprint for 2019. I did not receive a response from my emails to Blueprint.I had followed up with requests for instruction on what I was expected to do to get my o/s forever classes. Call “you won’t have to worry, everything is being done as quickly as we can and all of your forever classes will all be in the account at the same time.” Several calls to BP when I actually got through – was told to ‘maybe call back in August or later’. Another call to BP ‘“we are in process of getting our transfers completed. Give us a call sometime in October – should have everything thing complete at that time’. I have purchased over 100 classes from the old Craftsy. Now I have not been able to get back into My Account due to various software problems; having COVID19 did not help either. Finally was able to deal with this again and spoke with ‘Joan’ in Customer Service just prior to Christmas #877-329-9375. She was extremely helpful in getting me on to the Craftsy site .. was able to see programs, account etc. Then I switched to another app which apparently shut down the Craftsy site as I wasn’t able to get back in. I was asked for a password for the past 2 days which didn’t work , so entered a new password. And tried various new PW’s but to no avail. So here I am still unable to get back in & this phone number is not getting me through to anyone.

      Maria, email your issue toCraftsy@program-director.net

I have been having the same issue and still Customer Service has not been able to resolve it. It is taking a very long time.

This what I have been told by Customer Service:

      “Thank you for contacting us!
I do apologize but I was unable to locate an account under your email address. The accounts that were transferred to TN Marketing from BluPrint were for customers who had an active membership or who had purchased classes. If you purchased patterns they will not be available for 75 days so please check back in around mid-November. However, if you purchased a class from BluPrint, you can forward your full name and proof of payment to:Craftsy@program-director.net. Free classes from BluPrint were not transferred to an account.  I apologize for in the inconvenience.  ”

I have e-mailed Customer Service two bank statements, the ones I could find, that shows payments to Craftsy. Waiting for an answer, I will see what they will come up with now.

Thanks for all your information and news on Craftsy/Bluprint! I hope TNN works more on the site. It would be great if there was a way to save favourites. Also, just so people are aware, I had cancelled my subscription on Bluprint after they notified us of it closing, however, my credit card info has transferred to the new site with a message saying I will be automatically renewed when my membership expires. That’s kind of disappointing. Now I have to email them to make sure it is cancelled but it makes me wonder how many people out there don’t realize this has happened and may not even know they will be charged by the new site at some point. Maybe they told me this somewhere in an email but I certainly missed it. Anyway, just putting that here because I wasn’t sure if people were aware.

I am very disappointed in Craftsy, I was a member through it all, from Craftsy to Bluprint and now I was so looking forward to the new Craftsy however I can not sign in to my account. I have emailed them to have my password reset, and they are now telling me there is no such account, no email registered, I find it so funny when I have been with them for years and have so many patterns, classes and videos saved – however after going over and over with them, they just dropped me with no reply to my last email. I’m very upset with them and will no longer be a part of it. Still receive daily emails from them with all the latest news and with an invitatioto subscribe for only $2.49 for a full year but yet they tell me they have no such email registered. I feel like my account is not important enough for them to deal with so Goodbye and Farewell Craftsy.

I just joined Craftsy in December for $5 through a Facebook ad. I don’t know what it was like before so I can’t compare but I think it’s incredible! I have been watching at least one video a day and although I was not a total beginner in any area I’ve checked out so far(quilting, crochet, painting, drawing, photography) I have learned SO MUCH already. I can’t believe I got access to all of these videos for so little. I imagine I will renew at full price next year. There are thousands of videos on so many topics and although I see in this article that there are supposed to be ads in the new format, I haven’t seen any. I think Craftsy is great, but again, I didn’t know what it was like before, so I guess I can understand those of you who liked it not liking whatever changes happened.

I have been with Craftsy from the start and spent a substantial and ridiculous amount of money between original Craftsy/Bluprint. Oh how I loved the original Craftsy and their kits which is long gone… now that was a company that cared about their customers! Now, its 2022 and a lone gone memory!
Now that a substantial amount of time has passed for this current Craftsy to get their act in gear, NONE of my original classes are showing and I spent a fortune on them!! So much $$ Im want to cry! I contacted and no help even though they said it was handled. Further, I was on the monthly plan and then they charged my credit card for a full year in December 2021! Sorry, but this company blows. I get a corporation is all about the bottom line but without happy customers you no longer have a business…. plain and simple. Not to mention, there are no new classes that are worth a damn, so do yourself a favor… if you 100% need an older class, buy it outright when there is a sale and don’t fall for their subscription crap because you will be the one burned in the long run. Im appalled at all this and its obvious Im not the only one. Craftsy … you are making something thats supposed reduce stress pretty darn stressful… thank you so much for that!
