Jules Verne (8 February1828 -24 March1905) was aFrenchauthor who lived onEarth during the19th and20th centuries. He was famed as a pioneer of the field ofscience fiction writing.

As a child,Benny Russell read Verne's books, which he borrowed from his school library, and was inspired by his works to become as science fiction writer himself. (DS9novelization:Far Beyond the Stars,TOS -Cruciblenovel:Provenance of Shadows)

In the late23rd century,Lee Kelso commented that thespacecraft theUSSEnterprise had discovered looked like something Jules Verne would have imagined. (TOS -New Visionscomic: "The Rhyme of the Ancient Mariner")

Upon her revival fromcryogenic suspension in theyear2371,Amelia Earhart, unconvinced of what she was hearing about theUSSVoyager, stated that space travel was purely science fiction, such as the work of Wells. (VOYepisode: "The 37's")
