Produced through eight generations, theChevrolet Corvette, known colloquially as theVette, has been produced since 1953. The first model, a convertible, was introduced at the GM Motorama in 1953 as a concept show car with the first production car produced onJune 30,1953 at theGeneral Motors facility inFlint,Michigan.
First generation (C1; 1953–1962)
[edit]The Chevrolet Corvette (C1) is the first generation of the Corvette sports car produced by Chevrolet. It was introduced late in the 1953 model year, and produced through 1962. It is commonly referred to as the "solid-axle" generation, as the independent rear suspension did not appear until the 1963 Sting Ray.

Second generation (C2; 1963–1967)
[edit]The second generation C2, marketed as the Corvette Sting Ray, included the first-ever production Corvette coupe. A futuristic fastback, the coupe sported an unusual styling element for its time period - a divided rear window.
