Está conformado por 13 grandes islas volcánicas, 6 islas más pequeñas y 107 rocas e islotes, las cuales se distribuyen alrededor de la línea del ecuador terrestre. Forman parte del territorio de la República del Ecuador. Se estima que la formación de la primera isla tuvo lugar hace más de 5 millones de años, como resultado de la actividad tectónica. Las islas más recientes, llamadas Isabela y Fernandina, están todavía en proceso de formación, habiéndose registrado la erupción volcánica más reciente en 2005.

The Galapagos Province is a group of tiny volcanic islands that sit just off the equator. The Galapagos Islands have for centuries captured the interest of people from all over the globe because of its unique biodiversity and it was made famous by Darwin and his Theory of Evolution.
