It is an unincorporated territory of theUnited States, administered from Washington, D.C. by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service of the U.S. Department of the Interior as part of the National Wildlife Refuge system.Howland Island, as well as► Baker Island,► Jarvis Island,► Johnston Atoll,► Kingman Reef,► Midway Atoll,► Wake Island, and► Palmyra Atoll, lies in the Pacific Ocean, south of Hawaii.
