SYNOPSIS

On a ship in the middle of the ocean during a storm, Care Bears battle a sea dragon named Dark Heart. Then, as a whirlpool threatens to suck the ship underwater, a rainbow lifts the vessel into the heavens. Below, Dark Heart threatens to find and destroy the bears until his last dying breath. In the heavens, a giant, bright shining star tells the ship of bears that their love and kindness have become known far and wide. He anoints two Care family members to be “True Heart Bear” and “Noble Heart Horse” in recognition of their good deeds, and their courage, protecting orphan cubs from Dark Heart’s evil spirit. The bears create the Kingdom of Caring, and there, True Heart Bear and Noble Heart Horse use the “caring meter” to determine who needs their help on Earth. For her first mission, True Heart parachutes into a summer camp. There, she discovers Swift Heart Rabbit, a stowaway, in her backpack. They watch as Camp Champ taunts campers John, Dawn, and Christy for losing a race. He orders them to clean the campgrounds, and recommends that if they cannot keep up, they should leave. Christy laments that she hates being last. Dawn says it is true they cannot swim or paddle a boat, and lose every competition. Then, Christy decides to run away. She disappears into the forest, and the others join her. True Heart follows them but gets lost. Soon, John and Dawn become separated from Christy. True Heart appears and offers to guide John and Dawn back to camp. When they refuse to return, True Heart suggests they share their feelings instead of obsessing on what they cannot do. Suddenly, Swift Heart Rabbit cries. When the campers comfort the rabbit, True Heart compliments them on making friends, and they all travel to the Kingdom of Caring. There, the caring meter shows Dark Heart is stirring up trouble. True Heart and Noble Heart return to Earth to fight him and rescue Christy, but leave the campers in charge of the cubs. In the forest, Christy blames herself for Dawn and John’s disappearance. Soon, Dark Heart, disguised as a boy from a neighboring camp, claims he can turn Christy into the Camp Champ if she promises to do a favor for him later. When he snaps his finger, Christy does a perfect cartwheel. He warns he will return later to collect his favor. Meanwhile, John and Dawn return to Earth, and tell Christy about their adventures in the Kingdom of Caring. They explain they learned it is more important to be good friends than to be the greatest athlete because friends are there to help each other. Christy says she is returning to camp. To safeguard against an attack from Dark Heart, True Heart and Noble Heart move the bear cubs to a new home above the clouds known as “Care-a-Lot,” and the Care Cub cousins make a new home in the treetops of “The Forest of Feelings.” In his underground cave, Dark Heart vows to destroy all the Care Bears. At camp, Christy wins every contest, and the other campers are exhausted from keeping up with her. Soon, the cubs organize a party to celebrate True Heart and Noble Heart’s return, when they notice the caring meter spinning out of control. When several cubs examine the meter, they meet Dark Heart disguised as the boy. He pretends to fix the meter, but disables it further. The cubs invite him to the party, and he organizes sack racing, hide-and-go-seek, blind man’s bluff, and leap frogging to kidnap the bears. When assorted star guardians sabotage his efforts, Dark Heart turns angry, and transforms into a menacing red cloud. The combined positive powers of the Care Bears and their cousins prevent Dark Heart from accomplishing his mission, but he promises to return. True Heart and Noble Heart leave to vanquish Dark Heart while he is still weak. Back at camp, Dark Heart tells Christy the time has come to repay his favor or she will revert back to being a scrawny loser. Dark Heart traps several Care Bears when they try to rescue Christy in a canoe on the lake. After most of the Care Bears and Care Bear cousins are trapped, the remaining members hold a meeting at the Hall of Hearts. A plan emerges in which the remaining Care Bears decide to rescue their kidnapped family from Dark Heart’s secret cave. Meanwhile, True Heart and Noble Heart realize they have chased a decoy, Dark Heart’s shadow, and hastily return to save the Care Bear community. As the last of the Care Bears are captured, they are locked in cages. A star guardian picks the lock, freeing some Care Bears. They decide to steal Dark Heart’s key in order to free the others. Although they retrieve the key, Dark Heart awakens and transports his prisoners to another hidden location. In the woods, John and Dawn convince Christy they are still friends, and since she granted Dark Heart’s favor, she does not owe him anything more. The campers confront Dark Heart, and demand to know where he has hidden the Care Bears. Dark Heart produces a giant crystal chandelier made up of all the Care Bears frozen inside the individual crystals. True Heart and Noble Heart arrive, and warn he will not succeed in his diabolical plan to destroy the Care Bear family. Dark Heart removes Christy’s Camp Champ powers, but she uses a marble to unravel the chandelier. It crashes, releasing Care Bears from the crystals. All the Care Bears use their positive energy to fight Dark Heart, but his negative energy wounds Christy and he has remorse. He stops fighting and ask the Care Bears to save Christy. They claim it will take all the love and caring in the world to save her. The Care Bears join hands and ask everyone to care. Even Dark Heart cares, and Christy is revived. Dark Heart’s cave crumbles, and everyone escapes. Outside, True Heart and Noble Heart realize that all the caring has drained the evil out of Dark Heart, and he and Christy share a dance of joy as he is transformed into a real boy, and becomes a fellow camper.
