Wonder Mail (Japanese:ふしぎなメールWonder Mail) is a feature in thePokémon Mystery Dungeon series of games. Depending on the entry, Wonder Mail can allow players to redeem specificmissions to play, redeem Pokémon directly, or redeem items directly. These methods all usually involve inputting specific passwords.

Redeem Missions

InRed and Blue Rescue Team, each of the randomly generated in-game missions has a password in its description that allows players to share mission with one another. A given password can be entered only once on a given save file. In Japanese versions, they are a single row of 17 characters: 5 white, 7 gold and 5 white (making them similar to Friend Rescue passwords), while in non-Japanese releases, they are instead 2 rows of 12 characters: 4 white, 4 gold, 4 white. As such, they are incompatible. It is possible to receive a Wonder Mail for a job in a dungeon that the player has not unlocked yet; however, except for the four dungeons that have to be unlocked this way, such jobs cannot be taken.

InExplorers of Time and Darkness, the Wonder Mail is now 2 rows of 12 characters regardless of the version, making them all compatible. It is now also possible to send the Wonder Mail to another player via wireless communication; this is the only way to share the special missions that unlockMewtwo in Explorers of Time andCelebi in Explorers of Darkness, as these missions do not feature the code and the Pokémon are otherwise not available in those respective games.

Kecleon and legendary Pokémon cannot be clients; in theExplorers games, many NPC species, such asGrovyle andChatot, are unavailable as well. Magnemite and Magnezone are often the clients for outlaw missions in the latter games, but they will never appear for other types of jobs.

Special Wonder Mail codes were periodically available on Pokémon.com, which give access to unique missions or dungeons. Wonder Mail is ranked by difficulty, with the lowest difficulty being E, and the hardest being * (in Red and Blue Rescue Team), or ☆9 (in Explorers of Time, Darkness, and Sky). A small selection of Wonder Mail could also be found onNintendo Wi-Fi Connection prior to its shutdown in 2014.

InExplorers of Sky, Wonder Mail instead has 34 characters, and is renamedWonder Mail S (Japanese:ふしぎなメールSWonder Mail S). Wonder Mail missions from its sister gamesTime and Darkness are unusable, unlike Friend Rescue passwords. Additionally, unlike Wonder Mail codes in Time and Darkness, Wonder Mail S codes are not compatible between the Japanese, North American and European releases of the game.

InPokémon Mystery Dungeon (WiiWare), special missions were available to download through WiiConnect24.

InRescue Team DX, an 8-character password system can also grant special missions. However, the game looks up a distinct list of valid passwords in its data, rather than the game "decoding" any code it is given.

Red and Blue Rescue Team

Legendary Pokémon, Mythical Pokémon, Kakuna, Magnemite, Magneton, Gengar, Unown, Silcoon, Cascoon, Castform, Kecleon and Gardevoir are unavailable through Redeem Missions.

Explorers of Time, Darkness, and Sky

Legendary Pokémon and Mythical Pokémon are unavailable through Redeem Missions. In addition to these restrictions, many other species, mostly storyline NPCs, are also unobtainable. As a result, it is impossible to obtain these Pokémon prior to the point when they would normally become recruitable; for example,Bidoof cannot be obtained prior to unlockingMystifying Forest.

In Explorers of Sky, certain Legendary Pokémon as well asLucario can issueChallenge Letters despite being otherwise unavailable through jobs, and the Challenge Letters can be shared through Wonder Mail S. It is required to unlock certain dungeons before these jobs can be accepted.

InPokémon Mystery Dungeon (WiiWare), it is possible to automatically recruit certain Pokémon through 16-character"Pal Passwords". This uses a distinct list of valid passwords in the game's data.

Redeem Items

Starting withGates to Infinity, it is possible to redeem items directly through Wonder Mail by using an 8-character password. Once again, the game refers to a list of valid passwords in its data.
