Water Shuriken (Japanese:みずしゅりけんWater Shuriken) is a damage-dealingWater-typemultistrike move introduced inGeneration VI. It is thesignature move ofAccelgor inGeneration VIII andGreninja inGeneration IX.
Effect
Generation VI
Water Shuriken is aphysical move in this generation.
Water Shuriken deals damage and is an increasedpriority move, hitting the target 2-5 times per use. Each strike made has an equal chance to be acritical hit.
There is a 35% chance that it will hit 2 times, a 35% chance it will hit 3 times, a 15% chance it will hit 4 times, and a 15% chance it will hit 5 times. The average total base power is 46.5.
Water Shuriken may continue attacking after breaking asubstitute.Bide andCounter will only acknowledge the last strike of this move.
If the target hasWeak Armor, each strike will activate it.
If aFocus Sash activates before the last strike is dealt, the following strike will cause the defending Pokémon to faint. AFocus Band can still activate repeatedly to prevent fainting, but each chance is independent.Sturdy will activate with each hit if the defending Pokémon has a maximum HP of 1.
If the user is holding aKing's Rock orRazor Fang, each consecutive hit has an equal chance to cause the opponent toflinch.
Generation VII
Water Shuriken is now aspecial move.Mirror Coat will only acknowledge the last strike of this move.
If the target hasWater Compaction orStamina, each strike will activate it.
IfBattle Bond is activated, Water Shuriken's power rises from 15 to 20, and it always hits three times.
Generation VIII
Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl
Water Shuriken cannot be selected in a battle.
Generation IX
Battle Bond no longer has a special interaction with Water Shuriken.
Pokémon Legends: Z-A
Water Shuriken always throws five projectiles per use. As aPlus Move, Water Shuriken will throw only one projectile but will have much higher power. If it is used byMega Greninja, a different animation is used with a larger, faster projectile. In both cases, it will instead have 75 power.

Water Shuriken isGreninja's neutral special. It is a chargeable projectile. It slowly travels forward and hits multiple times if fully charged, and functions as a small fast projectile if not charged at all. Unlike other chargeable projectiles, it cannot be stored.

In Pokémon UNITE, Water Shuriken isGreninja's first move. It is obtained by evolving fromFrogadier at level 7 and upgradingBubble into it instead ofSurf. The user throws 3-5 shurikens made of water which explode when they hit an enemy, damaging and slowing enemies in a small area while healing the user. At level 11, the user throws one more shuriken.
Greninja's Unite Move,Waterburst Shuriken, is similar to Water Shuriken.
