Water Pledge (Japanese:みずのちかいWater Oath) is a damage-dealingWater-typemove introduced inGeneration V. It isTM145 inPokémon Scarlet and Violet.

Along withFire Pledge andGrass Pledge, Water Pledge is one of the battle-combo moves. AllWater-typefirst partner Pokémon and theirEvolutions can learn this move.

Effect

Water Pledge inflictsdamage.

When two allies attempt to use Water Pledge and eitherFire Pledge orGrass Pledge on the same turn, the ally moving first will not itself use a move, but instead the ally moving second will use a combined attack with a power of 150 and an additional effect immediately after it:

  • If Water Pledge andFire Pledge are used in the same turn, the ally moving second will use Water Pledge with a power of 150, and create a rainbow on the user's side of the field for four turns. The rainbow doubles the probability ofadditional effects taking place for moves used by that side of the field (including the chance of flinching caused byKing's Rock andRazor Fang, but not includingSecret Power); this effect is cumulative withSerene Grace for chances to cause a stat change or inflict a status, but not for chances to cause flinching. Due to the way certain secondary effects are handled, this can lead to anoverflow glitch.
  • If Water Pledge andGrass Pledge are used in the same turn, the ally moving second will use Grass Pledge with a power of 150, and create a swamp on the target's side of the field for four turns. This swamp quarters the Speed of all Pokémon on that side of the field.

If a Pokémon uses one Pledge move and a partner has selected another Pledge move, but none of its partners are able to use their selected Pledge move that turn (e.g.paralysis,Sky Drop, etc.), no move will be executed.

Water Pledge is unaffected by a heldWater Gem (and will not consume it). If a combined move is used, it will always receive thesame-type attack bonus no matter which Pokémon is the one executing it, or what type the combined move is.

Water Pledge does not work inSky Battles.

Generation V

It has a regularpower of 50.

Generation VI onwards

Water Pledge's regular power changed from 50 to 80.

Generation VIII

Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl

Water Pledge cannot be selected in a battle.

Generation IX

Water Pledge can be used again, but its effects do not take effect in Tera Raid battles.

Pokémon Mystery Dungeon series

Water Pledge deals damage. InSuper Mystery Dungeon, when Water Pledge is used with Fire Pledge in anAlliance, the user's party will get therainbow condition for five turns, which increases the probability of secondary effects taking place. When used with Grass Pledge, the enemies in the same room will get theswamp condition for five turns, which reduces their Speed stat.

InRescue Team DX, Alliances are no longer present. Instead, when Water Pledge is used with a teammate in a position from which it can use Fire Pledge (that is, also adjacent to the enemy), Water Pledge's power will be increased and the teammates in the same room will get the Rainbow condition. 1 PP of Fire Pledge will also be used (and the teammate with Fire Pledge can still make another move on that turn). Water Pledge's effect with Grass Pledge will only activate when Grass Pledge is used.
