Vaniville Town is the hometown ofX andY, as well as their friendsShauna,Tierno, andTrevor.
As a child, X had won the championship of a Junior Trainer Tournament, causing him to receive a lot of attention from the media. Eventually the pressure of being stalked by reporters and paparazzo led to X locking himself in his room, refusing to come out, despite Y's constant attempts to make him do so.
Vaniville Town first appeared inAn X-cuse to Come Out and Play. Worried about his friend X, Trevor had calledProfessor Sycamore for help, and he had agreed to send him a set of the threeKalos first partner Pokémon, hoping they would cheer X up. However, as soon as the package containing thefirst partner Pokémon andPokédexes arrived,Xerneas andYveltal suddenly appeared in the middle of the town and started fighting each other, destroying the whole settlement. During the chaos, Trevor lostFennekin and one of the Pokédexes, Shauna lost herFurfrou, andTeam Flare attempted to steal X'sMega Ring. X and his friends survived the disaster, and, with their hometown in ruins, set off on ajourney together.
Later it was revealed that Team Flare, in order to hide the truth about the fight between the twoLegendary Pokémon, had made up a cover story about an unexplained explosion destroying Vaniville Town, and imprisoned every single citizen of Vaniville Town attheir headquarters inGeosenge Town to prevent them from outing the truth to the world.Alexa had also witnessed the destruction, but thephotographs she had taken of the incident were destroyed by her boss, theLumiose Press editor-in-chief, who was allied with Team Flare and even attempted to silence the reporter herself until she was saved by X and his friends.
At the end of the arc, the quintet of friends returned to Vaniville, and Y tearfully reunited with her motherGrace. Three months later, X moved into a newly-rebuilt house in Vaniville, and thus removed the tent he had lived in during his journey from Y'sRhyhorn's back.
