TheUnderground Man (Japanese:地下おじさんUnderground Man) lives inEterna City in a house next door to thePokémon Center.
In the core series games
When theplayer first meets him, he gives them theExplorer Kit. The otherNPCs in his house describe various aspects of exploring theUndergroundDPPt/Grand UndergroundBDSP. A woman inSunyshore City mentions thatByron and the Underground Man are related and they, withRoark, are a trio of dedicated diggers.

He gives the player a series of tasks, each with various rewards for completion:

The Underground Man appeared in thePokémon the Series: Diamond and Pearl episodeThe Grass Menagerie! whileTeam Rocket was exploring theUnderground. He convinced Jessie, James, and Meowth to dig upspheres andshards for him from the Underground, and fed them as a way of thanks. However, while they ate, he fled with the treasures.

Pokémon Adventures
The Underground Man was first mentioned inA Conk on Cranidos's Cranium, spending time withRoark in theUnderground. He makes his first appearance inDouble Trouble with Dialga and Palkia I, where he andByron were digging underground with theExplorer Kit to avoid Team Galactic from tracking the Sinnoh Gym Leaders. In thenext chapter, he suffered the effects from the distortion of time and space caused byDialga andPalkia battling. InDouble Trouble with Dialga and Palkia VI, the Underground Man along with Byron,Professor Rowan, andSir Berlitz reappear at theSpear Pillar and attempt to stopCharon from escaping.
Pokémon
The Underground Man uses these threeDugtrio to help him dig underground. While digging, they were suffering the effects from the distortion of time and space caused by Dialga and Palkia battling.
None of their moves are known.
