Tyler (DP080)
Tyler (Japanese:タイセイTaisei) is a beginningPokémon Trainer and acharacter of the day who appeared inThe Thief That Keeps on Thieving!.
A week into hisjourney, Tyler was trying desperately tocatch aYanma when he metAsh andhis friends. After finally weakening aYanma, he was about to catch her untilTeam Rocket showed up.Jessie threw aPoké Ball and caught Yanma herself.
Dismayed by this, Tyler began to feel that he would never catch a Yanma, but Ash encouraged him and he found the confidence to try again. The next day, he attempted to catch another Yanma but Team Rocket interfered once again and the Yanma got away. A little bit later he put out some ofBrock'sPokémon food which lured another Yanma. Team Rocket tried to interfere again but Ash sent them blasting off. It took a couple of attempts, but Tyler managed to catch this Yanma.
Tyler enjoyed his time with Ash and his friends, and was inspired by his one night of camping with them to seek out his own traveling companions. He expressed more interest in competing inGymbattles.

When he started his Pokémon journey, Tyler'sfirst partner Pokémon was aPiplup that henicknamedPippy (Japanese:チャッピーChappy). Pippy wears a tiara, which was a gift from Tyler's mother.
Despite the fact their journey together had only just started, Pippy was very loyal to Tyler. It was also very friendly towards other people despite the fact that Piplup are normally known for being distrusting of strangers. Pippy proved to be a skilled battler, as it not only was able to swim faster thanDawn's Piplup but was also instrumental in Tyler's successful campaign to capture aYanma. Pippy has a habit of dancing around when it is happy.
Upon starting his journey, Tyler made a vow to capture the first Pokémon he encountered, and that was aYanma. Although theYanma he saw was later captured byJessie, Tyler didn't give up and was determined to capture another. After a few attempts, which only failed thanks toTeam Rocket's interference, Tyler and Pippy finally succeeded in catching another passing Yanma.
