History
Ruby & Sapphire arc
The Trick Master is a friend ofWattson, and the pair were attempting to catch a trouble-makingDonphan but accidentally caughtSapphire instead. Upon learning that Sapphire accidentally found the entrance toNew Mauville, the trio are chased around by the Donphan when Sapphire accidentally clips it with one of Wattson's Dynamo Badges. The Trick Master falls down with Sapphire and Donphan but are attacked by New Mauville's generator, a large robot that attached itself to Wattson and several Electric Pokémon. While unable to help Sapphire and Donphan directly, the Trick Master correctly deduces that the robot can only absorb electricity before releasing at certain intervals. This allows Sapphire defeat the robot when its attack is redirected by Wattson'sElectrike. When the Trick Master and Wattosn investigate the defeated robot, however, it is revealed that it was made by the Trick Master's ancestor, and that defeating the robot allowed it to return power to New Mauville, turning the underground city into a theme park.
During the crisis fromKyogre andGroudon's the Trick Master would customize New Mauville's robot to fly before moving to join Sapphire in her attempt to reachSootopolis City, which now had a lingering barrier from the many legendary Pokémon that assembled in its radius. The Trick Master would use the robot to charge up bothMinun andPlusle, allowing them to blow a hole into Sootopolis when the pair release their supercharged blast. The Trick Master would remain on guard to blockArchie andMaxie's escape, but is knocked down from the sky by their air car. After the crisis is resolved, the Trick Master and Wattson would return back to Mauville City to continue maintaining New Mauville.
It was also revealed that he likes to visit differentregions, such asJohto andFiore, to improve his designs.
Emerald arc
While travelling in Johto, the Trick Master ended up meetingEmerald, who had runaway from his abusive family members and dreamed of creating artificial limbs to compensate for his small size. By chance, the Trick Master was thrilled by Emerald's ideas, and the pair became fast friends. Upon learning that Emerald had been bullied, he ends up recommending Emerald toEarl Dervish'sPokémon academy. When Emerald is only kept as an interimPokédex holder, he converses with the Trick Master again, who replies that whining and sulking over the issue would not solve it. Instead, the Trick Master provides Emerald with the completed tools he originally sketched from their first meeting. Additionally, the Trick Master would craft a special soil dispenser based on Emerald's ability to quickly deduce a Pokémon's birthplace. Through this contraption, Emerald could create a surrounding seal to calm a target by filling its mind with a sense of nostalgia.
