Trace (Japanese:シンShin) is therival character ofPokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! and Let's Go, Eevee! and a childhoodfriend of theplayer. He is analogous toBlue's role in theGeneration I games andPokémon FireRed and LeafGreen.
In the core series games
Trace is a good-natured, if not cowardly young boy fromPallet Town. Like theplayer, hisjourney begins one day whenProfessor Oak calls the two to his lab to give them a Pokémon each. Trace's first Pokémon is a normalEeveeP/PikachuE that eventuallyevolves intoJolteonP/RaichuE. Trace travels theKanto region, defeatingGym Leaders while assisting the player with advice anditems.
InLavender Town, Trace learns about the evil deeds ofTeam Rocket, and meetsthe son of aMarowak that died protecting it. After Cubone calms his mother's spirit near the top ofPokémon Tower, Trace takes him back to Lavender Town, where he adopts him into hisparty, and swears to help him avenge its mother, giving him the resolve to become a braver person and a stronger Trainer. Trace, Cubone, and the rest of Trace's party help the player fight Team Rocket atSilph Co., fightingArcher in aMulti Battle and later holding off theTeam Rocket Admin while the player confrontsGiovanni. Eventually, Trace becomes theChampion atIndigo Plateau, though he soon loses his title to the player. Later, he tells the player abouta powerful Pokémon inCerulean Cave and keepsrematching them at the Pokémon League in an attempt to reclaim his title.

Trace appeared inThe Discovery, where he enteredCerulean Cave in order to find andcatchMewtwo, withGreen aiming to beat him to it. When Trace'sPidgeot was attacked by a swarm ofZubat andGolbat while flying over a ravine, he stopped to heal his Pokémon and allowed Green to go ahead. Later, he met up with Green andElaine atProfessor Oak's Laboratory before heading off with them.
