Thunder Punch (Japanese:かみなりパンチThunder Punch), formatted asThunderPunch prior toPokémon X and Y, is a damage-dealingElectric-typemove introduced inGeneration I.
It is:
- TM41 inGeneration II.
- TM23 inPokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! and Let's Go, Eevee!.
- TM05 inPokémon Sword and Shield.
- TM068 inPokémon Scarlet and Violet.
- TM023 inPokémon Legends: Z-A.
It can be thought of as a counterpart toIce Punch andFire Punch, having similar names and effects.
Effect
Generation I
ThunderPunch does damage and has a 10% chance ofparalyzing the opponent. ThunderPunch cannot paralyzeElectric-type Pokémon.
Generation II to V
ThunderPunch can now paralyze Electric-type Pokémon.
ThunderPunch can be used as the first move of aPokémon Contest combination, causingFire Punch andIce Punch to score double the normal appeal if used in the next turn. It can also be used to finish a combination, with the user gaining 4 bonus appeal points ifCharge,Fire Punch, orIce Punch was used in the previous turn.
Generation VI onwards
Thunder Punch can no longer paralyzeElectric-type Pokémon once again, due to them now being immune toparalysis.
Thunder Punch can be used as part of aContest Spectacular combination, with the user gaining an extra three appeal points ifCharge was used in the prior turn.
Generation VIII
Pokémon Legends: Arceus
Thunder Punch's PP was reduced from 15 to 10 and its chance of paralyzing the opponent was increased from 10% to 30%.
