Thunder deals damage and has a 10% chance ofparalyzing the target. Thunder cannot paralyzeElectric-type Pokémon.

Generation II to V

Thunder now has a 30% chance to paralyze the target. Thunder can now paralyze Electric-type Pokémon.

When used duringrain, Thunder bypassesaccuracy checks to always hit, unless the target is in thesemi-invulnerable turn of a move such asDig orDive. When used duringharsh sunlight, its accuracy is reduced to 50%.

Thunder can hit Pokémon during the semi-invulnerable turn ofFly,Bounce, andSky Drop.

Thunder can be used as the second move of aPokémon Contest combination, with the user gaining 2 bonus appeal points ifCharge,Lock-On, orRain Dance was used in the previous turn.

InPokémon Diamond and Pearl only, due toa glitch, when used inrain it has a 30% chance to hit a target that has usedProtect orDetect.

Generation VI onwards

Thunder's power was reduced from 120 to 110. It can no longer paralyzeElectric-type Pokémon once again, due to them now being immune toparalysis.

Thunder can be used as part of aContest Spectacular combination, with the user gaining an extra three appeal points if eitherCharge orRain Dance was used in the prior turn.

Pikachu usesThunder as its down special move. It summons a thunderbolt from the sky to attack opponents on the ground. InSuper Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS/Wii U, Thunder now summons a cloud that fires the thunderbolt, making the attack's range shorter. Additionally, the thunderbolt now acts a Meteor Smash.

InSuper Smash Bros. Melee,Pichu also uses Thunder as its down special move. It functions similarly to Pikachu's Thunder, although it strikes multiple times. If the thunderbolt hits Pichu, it will take damage.
