Throat Chop (Japanese:じごくづきHell Thrust) is a damage-dealingDark-typemove introduced inGeneration VII. It wasTR95 inPokémon Sword and Shield, and isTM221 inPokémon Scarlet and Violet. InPokémon Sun and Moon, it was one of thesignature moves ofIncineroar, but other Pokémon could still inherit it viabreeding.

Effect

This move effect may be in need of research.
Reason:
  • Does Throat Chop fail when used on a Pokémon already affected by Throat Chop? Does it inflict damage when used on a Pokémon affected by Throat Chop?
  • Using the sound-based moves:
    • If a Pokémon already had a sound-based moved selected for use in the current turn but gets hit by Throat Chop first, will the move fail or will it use Struggle? If it is used and fails, will this spend any PP of the sound-based move?
    • If a Pokémon affected by Throat Chop is ordered to use a non-sound-based move but attempts to use a sound-based move anyway because it is disobedient, will the move fail or will it use Struggle? If it is used and fails, will this spend any PP of the sound-based move?
    • Can the affected Pokémon still use a sound-based move through Mirror Move, Metronome, or Instruct? If it attempts to use a sound-based move in this manner but it is unable to, will the move fail or will it use Struggle?
  • If a confused, paralyzed, or infatuated Pokémon affected by Throat Chop attempts to use a sound-based move, does the Throat Chop failure takes precedence? (In particular, is it still possible to hit itself from confusion by attempting to use a sound-based move while affected by Throat Chop?)
  • Is Throat Chop's effect transferable by Baton Pass?
You candiscuss this on the talk page.

Throat Chop inflicts damage and prevents the target from usingsound-based moves for two turns.StatusZ-Moves are unaffected by this effect.

If the target was causing anuproar, it ends early.

When the effect of Throat Chop for a Pokémon begins or ends, it does not display a battle message.

If the only moves that would be usable by an affected Pokémon are sound-based moves, or it was locked into using a sound-based move by aChoice item orEncore, it will useStruggle.
