Pokémon world locations

TheTeam Aqua Hideout (Japanese:アクアアジトTeam Aqua Hideout), calledAqua Hideout in theGeneration III games, is the main base ofTeam Aqua inPokémon Sapphire,Emerald, andAlpha Sapphire.

InPokémon Ruby andOmega Ruby, it is replaced by theTeam Magma Hideout instead. The base is essentially the same, though there is less water, all Aqua members are replaced by Magma members, andMatt is replaced byTabithaR orCourtneyOR.

Until Team Aqua steals the submarine atSlateport City, two Grunts will block access to the rest of the hideout from the entrance.

In the games

Geography

The hideout is located in the northeast ofLilycove City. Inside, they are manywarp panels. There is also some water from which the submarine departs from.

Role

On theplayer's first visit, there are also a number ofTeam Aqua Grunts that will try and slow down the player. At the back of the hideout, the player battlesMatt, who will tell the player thatArchie, the leader ofTeam Aqua, has left with the submarine to the watery depths nearSootopolis City. After the submarine departs, theWailmer that theTeam Aqua Grunt was trying to train that were blocking access toRoute 124 are gone.

In Sapphire, the entrance to the hideout is sealed after defeating Tate and Liza, meaning the player canno longer collect any items or battle any Trainers inside.

Delta Episode

During theDelta Episode, afterZinnia has destroyed the dimensional shifter controller at theMossdeep Space Center, she storms the hideout, defeatingTeam Aqua Grunts on her way toArchie to steal hisKey Stone. In Archie's room, when the player arrives Zinnia has just defeated Archie, who then takes Archie's Key Stone. After she announces her plans to head to theSky Pillar to awakenRayquaza and leaves, Archie hasShelly give the player hisSharpedonite.

After receiving the Sharpedonite from Shelly, the player receives an Entry Call on theirPokéNav Plus fromSteven, who requests that the player meet him at theMossdeep Space Center.

Ruby & Sapphire arc

The Aqua Hideout first appeared inStick This in Your Craw, Crawdaunt! I, whereArchie congratulatedTeam Aqua GruntsShelly,Matt, andAmber on theirsuccessful theft of theheart component of theSubmarine Explorer 1 fromMr. Stone and promoted them intoTeam Aqua Admins as a reward for their good work, though not without also making it clear that he did not approve of them having left witnesses alive.

InAlways Keep Whiscash on You for Emergencies,Maxie andTabitha were allowed inside the Hideout to join their resources with Team Aqua for the time being so that they could reach theSeafloor Cavern safely by combining the heart component Team Aqua had stolen with the submarine stolen byTeam Magma. ManyGrunts from both teams were also taken as backup.

InThe Beginning of the End with Kyogre & Groudon XIV,Wattson,Winona, andFlannery searched through the abandoned Hideout and freedProfessor Cozmo, whom Team Aqua had captured earlier.

Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire arc

The Hideout reappeared inGorebyss Changes Color andBeedrill Prepares, whenBlaise and Amber met each other there, discussing about the resurfacing of theRed andBlue Orbs, as well as the suspected return of their respective leaders.

Trivia

There is a picture of a boy with a shaved head, a girl with black hair, and a Pokémon with three notes attached to its head. "The 7th day of the –th month, –002. With Arc–e and –rachi." The letters at the edge of the picture are faded and hard to read…
Based on the description, the picture likely features youngArchie and Shelly withJirachi. The date described can possibly be the 7th of July, the date ofTanabata, the Japanese star festival which Jirachi is commonly associated with, while the year is likely 2002, the year whenPokémon Ruby and Sapphire were first released. In the Spanish version of the game, the date is slightly altered, showing the year number –003 instead of –002. This is a possible reference to Ruby and Sapphire being released outside of Japan in 2003.
