Thousans of years prior to the events of the manga,Reshiram was part of a single powerful DragonPokémon used bytwin heroes who created theUnova region. The two brothers argued over how to rule the Unova region. The elder brother pursued the truth while the younger brother pursued ideals. Unable to choose a side, the Dragon Pokémon split into two beings: Reshiram, who sided with the elder brother, andZekrom, who sided with the younger. Sometime after the two brothers battled, Reshiram and Zekrom transformed into theLight andDark Stones, respectively.
In thepresent day, both stones were found at theDesert Resort byClay and his mining crew. Feeling a strange surge of power every time he touched the stones, Clay became concerned and askedLenora to study them. The Light and Dark Stones were taken toNacrene Museum to be studied, but only the Dark Stone's discovery was made public knowledge. Lenora later discovered the both stones were actually theLegendary Pokémon Reshiram and Zekrom. As Lenora studied the stones,Team Plasma spied on her with the intent on stealing the stones.
InThe Battle Within, theShadow Triad launched the operation to retrieve the Dark Stone. The UnovaGym Leaders each fought against the Shadow Triad to protect the Dark Stone. Eventually, theGym Leaders won, but were defeated when the Shadow Triad revealed their trump card, theforces of nature. Though the Gym Leaders were defeated and captured, the Shadow Triad were unable to break into the basement where the Dark Stone was kept. By disguising himself asBrycen, aTeam Plasma Grunt trickedBlack into leading him into the basement, allowingGhetsis to take the Dark Stone and knock Black unconscious. After Ghetsis had left, the real Brycen entered the basement and found the unconscious Black. He opened the lock to the Light Stone, which rolled towards Black, choosing him to be the next Hero of Truth. Brycen then decided to take Black and train him so that he may be able to wield Reshiram's power against Team Plasma.
InWill the Truth Come Out?, Black stumbles across a battle betweenN andAlder. When he notices that N managed to get Zekrom to join him, the Light Stone glows brightly and Reshiram briefly emerges from it before retreating back inside.
InTrue Friends, Black, enraged that Team Plasma managed to manipulate his friendCheren, angrily demands Team Plasma to reveal themselves. This causes Reshiram to fully emerge from the Light Stone. After Team Plasma surrounds thePokémon League withN's Castle, Reshiram senses Zekrom's presence and goes off to fight its counterpart alone. After catching up with it, Black rides on Reshiram's back as they face off against N and Zekrom in their final battle. Though initially fearful that he may not be able to live up to the previous Hero's legacy, Black musters up the courage to fight alongside Reshiram. Together, Black and Reshiram hit Zekrom with a powerfulFusion Flare, knocking Zekrom and N to the ground.
Zekrom quickly gets back up and flies to N's Castle with Black and Reshiram following after it. Upon arriving, Black is shocked to see asecond Zekrom fighting alongside the original one. Though momentarily confused, Black sees through the ruse and has Reshiram attack the real Zekrom, defeating it. The battle left Reshiram exhausted, leaving it unable to help Black in his final battle against Ghetsis.
After N and Zekrom leave, Reshiram lets out a roar as it begins reverting back into the Light Stone. Black realizes that if he andWhite stand near it, they will be absorbed into the Light Stone as well. Hearing this, Ghetsis usesColress'sBeheeyem to throw Black onto Reshiram before making his escape. Black is unable to escape and is sealed into the Light Stone alongside Reshiram. When White attempts to grab the Light Stone, it flies off to parts unknown.
InFlying Ship, N and Zekrom were seen chasing after the Light Stone. The Light Stoneeventually landed in theEntralink and was found by White. Zekrom arrived soon after and took the group towards Kyurem, being drawn in by its power. Afterreaching Kyurem, N had White take the Light Stone to safety as he believed that if Zekrom were defeated and absorbed by Kyurem, the Light Stone would react and turn back into Reshiram.
InDream World, White and N were taken into the Light and Dark Stones, respectively, after Kyurem reverted Zekrom. They arrived at thePokémon Dream World, where they met with Black again. Black revealed he wanted the Light Stone to be absorbed so he and Reshiram could fight Kyurem from the inside, but decided to have N do it instead while he and White headed outside to fight Kyurem directly. However, when Reshiram tried to attack Kyurem, it was blasted back by a powerfulFusion Bolt. Soon after, Reshiram was seen interacting with theSwords of Justice.
InDeduction Time, Reshiram leaves with the UnovaPokédex holders and the Swords of Justice to pursue Kyurem, following the Boundary Pokémon to theGiant Chasm.Once they arrived at the Giant Chasm, Colress has Kyurem attack Reshiram and the Unova Pokédex holders. Using the Giant Chasm to boost Kyurem'sOverdrive mode, Colress commands Kyurem to freeze the entire chasm, as it can't directly freeze Reshiram. Before Kyurem finishes the attack, it stops on its own, as it had been freed from the control of theColress Machine. Kyurem reverts to its normal form and absorbs Reshiram to becomeWhite Kyurem.
InThe Final Battle, Kyurem separated itself from Reshiram again before leaving. Reshiram then flew Black, White, andIris to thePlasma Frigate, where it helped those on board escape before it crashed. After Ghetsis was captured, Reshiram left Black.

Thousans of years ago,Kyurem was part of a single powerful DragonPokémon used bytwin heroes who created theUnova region. When the Dragon split intoReshiram andZekrom, a third Dragon created from what remained was born. This Dragon Pokémon, named Kyurem, belonged to neither Truth nor Ideals.
Two years prior to the start of theBlack 2 & White 2 arc, Kyurem sensed the energy from the now-awakened Zekrom and, wishing for Absofusion, appeared before Zinzolin at theGiant Chasm. Kyurem was then captured byZinzolin.
Kyurem debuted inCold Storage Battle, where it appeared before Zinzolin andColress at theCold Storage. Impressed by Kyurem's strength, Colress demanded that Zinzolin handed the Boundary Pokémon over to him. Angered by Colress's arrogance, Zinzolin refused and commanded Kyurem to battle the scientist. During their battle, Colress came to the conclusion that Zinzolin's ultimate goal was to have Kyurem fuse with Reshiram or Zekrom through Absofusion. Eventually, Zinzolin was defeated byThundurus and Landorus and thrown out of the building.
InTherian Forme III, Colress used theColress Machine to take control of Kyurem. He used it to attackBlake, but was stopped byGhetsis when he arrived on thePlasma Frigate. Ghetsis had Colress load Kyurem onto a special room located on the ship, allowing the Plasma Frigate to fly through the air. With Kyurem's energy, the Plasma Frigate gained access to a special cannon capable of freezing buildings in an instant.
InFlying Ship, Blake andWhitley fought to free Kyurem fromTeam Plasma's control. Blake usedKelden to cut and destroy the chamber containing Kyurem, only to find it empty. Colress explained that the Plasma Frigate had drained enough energy to freeze all of Unova before commanding Kyurem to freeze Blake, Whitley, and Kelden solid. He then had the three thrown into the ocean below.
InPink Slip, Ghetsis was given control of Kyurem so he could battle withN, who had arrived to stop Team Plasma. During the battle, Ghetsis obtained theDNA Splicers, which allowed Kyurem to revert Zekrom back into theDark Stone, sealing N inside with it. Kyurem then absorbed the Dark Stone to becomeBlack Kyurem, giving it the power to freezeUndella Town with a singleFreeze Shock. When Reshiram attempted to fight Kyurem, it was blasted back by a powerfulFusion Bolt from Kyurem.
InDeduction Time, Kyurem began heading towards the Giant Chasm of its own free will. After they arrived, Colress retook control of Kyurem and used it to attack the UnovaPokédex holders. When Kyurem stopped moving,Rood appeared, revealing that a machine designed to counter the Colress Machine had been activated. Kyurem reverted to its normal form and absorbed Reshiram, transforming it intoWhite Kyurem. Colress tried to command Kyurem once more, only for it to fire off anIce Burn at him, convincing the scientist to give up and flee. Kyurem then went to destroy the Plasma Frigate, forcingBlack,White, andIris to try and stop it from harming the people onboard.
InThe Final Battle, an explosion tore the Plasma Frigate apart, setting it ablaze and causing it to crash. When a piece of the ship tore off, a large pile of liberated Pokémon still inside theirPoké Balls began plummeting towards the ground. Kyurem saved the Pokémon by freezing the air to create a large bridge of ice, allowing the Poké Balls to harmlessly slide to safety. Afterward, Kyurem separated itself from Reshiram again before leaving to find Colress, where the Boundary Pokémon froze him solid withSheer Cold. Once all the humans had left the Giant Chasm, Kyurem covered the entire location in ice in order to rest undisturbed.
Personality and characteristics
Kyurem is a powerfulPokémon, able to keep theCold Storage at freezing temperatures with just its presence. Kyurem is described byZinzolin as an empty shell that is not marred by truth and ideals.
