I need help on how to edit

Hello, I am a BIG Pokémon Fan I would LOVE to help edit on Bulbapedia! I have edited other things before, Such as Fandom (Fandom.com). In Fandom, there is a thing called "Visual Editor", where you can edit the page, while still seeing the preview. But I am not familiar with Bulbapedia, and I don't know how to do stuff for editing. If someone could show some tools on how to edit Bulbapedia, That would be really helpful. Thanks!I know the basic stuff like putting [[ for a link and stuff. But I need to know how to do other things. Or, adding a "Visual Editor" type to Bulbapedia would be nice. :)IsaacBoi123 (talk)00:46, 30 November 2022 (UTC)Reply

questions about regarding some of Rival Blues pokemon team Moves (Fire red Leaf green)

Hello wasent sure where to discuss this, but i found that in a video i have a link to that when a youtuber used a ditto in a fire red run he copied Rival Blues growlithe's moves in Silph Co, and turns out it had the moves Odor Sleuth, and Helping Hand, not Roar and Leer which are applied along the other recently correct moves already applied to it which are Take Down and Flame Wheel respectively, can anyone else confirm what other correct moves are for Exeggcute, i could be wrong but im sure that the correct moves it has are confusion, stun spore and the other two moves im not sure, and apart of me thinks its not hypnosis but rather, Leech Seed, poison powder, or sleep powder? and also for the last Route 22 fight with Rival blue im starting to wonder what the correct moves are for the growlithe and exeggcute TBH im starting to wonder what moves are even right on blues pokemon from beginning to end in fire red and leaf green some look like they were coping some of the old red and blue moves and mixing them up with the new and improved moves on his pokemon... I might be mistaken but im not sure, can anyone shed some light on this? id like to do a play through and make sure that the right moves are correct on Blues party from oaks lab to the final battle so that everyone knows the correct moves are on which pokemon. also please if anyone could please send me the correct moves Blue uses on his Blastoise team in Pokemon tower, Silph Co., Route 22 and final Battle with him choosing Blastoise? thanks! Should the explorers have their Pokémon’s stuff be included in the important events section of the episode pages

My biggest support to that is ash’s companions had their Pokémons’s stuff on the important stuff pages so why shouldn’t the explorers’s pokemon be on the same page having their pokemons’s new moves and such listed?Awesome Ocelot (talk)01:58, 22 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

Pokemon Dream World Art

Hello. I have recently joined Bulbapedia, wanting to help improve the Pokémon Dream World Art among other things. I currently don't who's in charge of that, so I hope someone can show me how I can help and/or who's in charge of the Pokémon Dream World Art. (AnotherGhostlyFolk) 03:31:00 August 27 2024 (UTC)

Hi! There isn't really any one "in charge" of any particular artwork we have on theArchives, instead you can join theBulbagarden Discord, and discuss what changes you'd like to make in the#archives-and-images channel. Alternatively, you can contact a member ofStaff if you need specific help. -Rustle (talk)22:49, 28 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

image preview?

When I click on an image, even in the archives, it doesn't go to the image page. Instead, it shows a preview. Is this intentional, or is it a glitch? If it is, is there a way to disable it? Sorry if this is the wrong place to ask, I just want to know what's going on.Goyangi (talk)01:23, 15 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

TheMultimediaViewer extension has been activated on the wiki. Previously, clicking an image on the wiki would take you to the Bulbapedia File page, and then you'd have to click a link through to the Archives File page. Now, the MultimediaViewer will show the image full size, and you can click "More Details" to see the Archives File page. -Rustle (talk)01:39, 15 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
You can disable this feature inyour preferences. Click the "appearance" tab, then scroll to the "files" section and uncheck the "Enable Media Viewer" box.Tech (talk)01:56, 15 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

Need some clearing up

I noticed that most instances of the word "anime" are being removed. Is there a particular reason? Sorry if this isn't the right place to ask.Goyangi (talk)22:42, 23 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

We're finding the term "in the anime" to be a bit vague so we are changing it to be more precise.--BigDocFan, Junior Admin Bulbapedia (talk)22:55, 23 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
At the same time, we're ensuring our content can handle non-Japanese origin animation, like Path to the Peak, and the newly released videos from China. Anime simply couldn't handle all those nuances anymore without something being misleading.MaverickNate23:13, 23 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
Even captions are changed, which also confuses me.Goyangi (talk)23:31, 23 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
That's part of the "being more precise" goal. Using more specific captions, to identify the specific series a Pokémon/item/etc. image is from, is more helpful to the reader.Storm Aurora (talk)23:38, 23 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

Adding images not working for visual editor

When adding images in the visual editor, it always says "no images found". This is because images are stored on the BG Archives, and MediaWiki treats the BG Archives as a completely different wiki.

If you can fix it, please do!SQUIRTINGSQUIRTLEMy Talk Page23:36, 20 July 2025 (UTC)Reply

I can't replicate this error; the option to add images happily shows files from the Archives for me. The option that is blocked is uploading new images, which is not something we will be able to change. -Rustle (talk)01:24, 21 July 2025 (UTC)Reply

clarification on information of tiles independant of trendy phrase in the article for finding feebas in gen 3

https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Hoenn_Route_119#Finding_Feebas

hello

so i noticed on the article about finding feebas it states that "The tiles' locations are independent of thetrend inDewford Town, although the tiles' location will change every time the trend does." when i was shiny hunting for feebas i found that when the trendy phrase repeats to a previous phrase, it had the same feebas locations as before, which would mean the tiles are dependant to the trendy phrase. i dont have any video footage, just my own experience , but if theres anyway i can verify it for you let me know. thanks!Paulydoregon (talk)06:31, 16 August 2025 (UTC)Reply

Deleting/reworking the link templates

For the average editor, the link templates are vague and confusing when viewing them in the editor, and the amount of time spent trying to figure what each template means, as well as which template to use, outweighs the minute benefits of the templates being used to shorten titles. For example, it's not obvious that theA template stands for "abilities." Also, these templates can break when pages are renamed, merged, or split. Most of these templates should be deprecated or deleted, with any usage of the templates being removed.

Also, identifiers shouldn't be needed when there is only one page that has a title, nor if it would be the most frequently-searched title; it just ends up being more work when linking it from other articles.Apikachu68 (talk)23:17, 23 September 2025 (UTC)Reply

What? Templates help makes editing easier so you don't have to type out Guts or Pikachu in full. A good chunk of the wiki uses link templates. And if they were to be moved or whatever, the bot can simply re-link them accordingly. If you are unsure what template to use or what each template means, you can simply checkList of link templates.--ForceFire05:25, 24 September 2025 (UTC)Reply
Okay, but I think the template names should be more intuitive to the average editor. For example, the average editor is not going to know what Template:A does if they've never looked at the template; it'd be better if the template was named Template:Ability; giving the editor the idea that the template is an identifier template for PokémonAbilities. However, even then I don't really see the point of having multiple identifier templates, especially if a general identifier template in the format {id:<Article name>|<identifier>} could be used instead. (There's currently a total of 437 link templates.) Not to mention that identifiers are redundant if there is only one page under that title.
Here's some examples of how the link templates can be renamed to be more intuitive:
 • Template:2ct → Template:2 counters
 • Template:2v → Template:2 versions (Can't figure out how to account for Template:2v2; maybe "Template:2 versions 2"?)
 • Template:A → Template:Ability
 • Template:Acolor → Template:Ability color
 • Template:Acce link → Template:Accessory link
 • Template:Aow → Template:Overworld animation (Also Template:Overworld ani, but it's not as clear.)
 • Template:Adv → Template:Adventures
 • Template:B → Template:Berry
 • Template:Bt → Template:Bulbapedia talk
 • Template:BTImg → Template:Battle Trozei image (Also Template:Battle Trozei img, but it's not as clear.)
 • Template:Ci → Template:City
 • Template:E → Template:Energy
 • Template:H → Template:Help
 • Template:I → Template:Item
 • Template:M → Template:Move
 • Template:N → Template:News
 • Template:P → Template:Pokémon
 • Template:Spr → Template:Sprite
 • Template:T → Template:Type
 • Template:U → Template:User (Possible conflict withanother template with the same name.)
 • Template:V → Template:Version
 • Template:Wp → Template:Wikipedia
 • Template:Yt → Template:Youtube
 • Template:Ytu → Template:YouTube user
I'm all for improving accessibility for visitors and users alike, and I'd prefer having to type templates that require more characters but are more intuitive to other editors than typing templates requiring less characters but are less intuitive to other editors. If there are other suggestions on making link template names more intuitive, let me know.Apikachu68 (talk)23:22, 9 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
The point of a link template is to shorten linking, hence why the link templates are only one or a few letters. If users are unsure of what templates to use or what they mean, they can always ask, go to the template page, or use the list of link templates page I linked. And identifiers are used if you want to link one word of the article without linking to a redirect or disambiguation page. Typing out Pikachu will lead to a disambiguation page, whereas Pikachu will lead to the species article.--ForceFire05:55, 10 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
Link templates have short names so they're quicker to use in the source editor. Sure, a person who has never looked at the template may not know what it's for, but one click to go the template page will tell them what the template is, what it stands for, and how to use it. Additionally, when each new user iswelcomed, they're recommended to go through the policies and best practices of the wiki, which includeslist of link templates: a list of all templates with quick examples of how to use them. We're adding documentation and TemplateData (a new feature on the wiki) to older templates to make them easier to use, so that should also make it clearer what they stand for. Lastly, Link templates will also make it easier if pages titles are reworked in the future. →SuperPikaPool1308:58, 10 October 2025 (UTC)Reply

Requiring citations for foreign names, dates, and age ratings

I'm thinking of adding all of the foreign names for the Pokémon books, adding citations for the foreign names. With the lack of citations for foreign names, a visitor or user cannot tell if the foreign name is real or was fabricated. I think that foreign names should be cited, so that visitors and users can know that the name actually originated from a source rather than having been fabricated. Dates and age ratings should also be cited for the same reason.Apikachu68 (talk)19:04, 10 October 2025 (UTC)Reply

the look changed

I made an account so that I can occasionally discuss or edit if needed, but now I think I'll stay signed out. The website immediately gets more rough and looks worse the moment you sign in. On the other Wikimedia-based wikis, and on Wikipedia itself, it looks the same when signed in and signed out. Is there a way to keep the design but add things needed for editors?Curry and sandwiches (talk)19:36, 3 January 2026 (UTC)Reply

Actually, the whole main page is the same signed in or out, it just has lower quality images and everything has been crammed to the side and top *with* the signed-in options. It's harder to search, for one. I'm not trying to mindlessly yap, but I do feel that the experience could be improved.Curry and sandwiches (talk)19:39, 3 January 2026 (UTC)Reply
You can change the logged in skin from a list of options in the appearance tab ofSpecial:Preferences.4iamking19:47, 3 January 2026 (UTC)Reply
Do note however that the logged out skin, BulbapediaMonobook, is not being maintained anymore and will have issues. If you'd like something closer to the logged out skin in appearance, but is a bit more editor-friendly, you can use BulbaVector, though this skin is currently under development and will also have issues, so feel free to let us know if you experience any problems and we can note them for our tech.Landfish722:19, 3 January 2026 (UTC)Reply
