I don't really think so. Already we have examples of moves changing between normal and challenge modes, such as Iris (Hydreigon has Flamethrower in normal mode, Fire Blast in challenge). Levels are scaled down for tournaments, especially the PWT. If you bring a Serperior into the Driftveil Tournament, it will be scaled down to level 25, even though Servine doesn't evolve until level 36. Seeing how N fails to qualify as a rival under the conditions I stipulated in my recent N edit summary, Colress seems to qualify as a rival, barring the Trainer class impediment. Should he be treated as such, because of his status as a recurring, re-battle-able, non-League-sanctioned, uniquely designed opponent in a game where he is prominently featured? I've noticed something interesting about his name... Achroma (in Japanese) may come from "achromatic", and Colress may come from "colorless". Considering that the games are called Black 2 and White 2, this makes a lot of sense to me. In my Black version(English) Challenge mode, Colress has levels 75 and 77, instead of 76 and 78, as shown on the page. In the japanese videos I watched, he had levels 76 and 78. The page still seems to be locked from editing from some users. I take issue with a point of trivia added by a user which states (pasting here): "Colress seems particularly fond of the Steel and Electric types, as he uses three electric types and three steel types, and two Pokémon that are an Electric/Steel type combination."

This doesn't seem notable, is pointed out by the colors of his infoboxes relating to Steel and Electric types, and is something a reader can deduce already by looking at his team rosters. I was playing Moon and just after the 4th trial (Firium Z) I saw Colress. Haven't played much more, though he appears to:

• No longer be with Team Plasma
• Wants to stay in Alola
• Still is trying to find how to make Pokemon stronger
• Finally figured out that it is the bond between trainers and their Pokemon

This character has a fairly long manga history spanning multiple chapters, so the headings make it easier to read and find information.

Why is Colress classified as a Steel-type Trainer? Neither he nor any NPC in the games mention anything about a connection to Steel-type Pokémon. He uses some of them but most likely to keep the science and technology theme. I personally think that Colress counts as a Steel-type user. Despite it not being stated out loud in the game, the fact is that the majority of his Pokémon are Steel types, and even characters who are outright mentioned to be type specialists sometimes use Pokémon outside of their type specialty, especially if said Trainers also appear in battle facilities. I'vediscussed about this withButSmeargleCan'tUseTheMove, but I'd like to hear opinions from other people too, based on the contents of this segment and the talk page I linked. --FinnishPokéFan92 (talk)20:47, 14 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

I'd like to add my argument here: most trainers who use non-type specialty Pokémon have a good excuse for it. For example, Lance uses Pokémon all based on dragons, even if they aren't Dragon types, and same for Aron's Flygon and Drapion (plus Drapion evolves from Skorupi). Plus, think about it like this: back in D/P, nobody would argue Flint isn't a Fire specialist despite not using many Fire mons, and even if Guzma is never stated to be one just like Colress, he still only uses them and is how you obtain Buginium Z. Colress seems to moreso use Pokémon favoured by the Scientist trainer class, fitting as he is a scientist himself, and people don't really say they're type specialists unlike say, Black Belts and Bug Catchers. You've got Klinklang, Magneton/Magnezone, and counting the Battle Tree (where he uses more non-Steels than Steels, although some Type Specialists do also do this like the aftermentioned Guzma), Porygon2, Porygon-Z, Muk and Electrode. It just so happens that a lot of Pokémon that fit this theme fall under the Steel type for obvious reasons. For now i'll add him back to the page for the Steel-type and other pages i removed him from.ButSmeargleCan'tUseTheMove (talk)22:38, 14 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
