ATechnical Record (Japanese:わざレコードMove Record), orTR for short, is a type of item introduced inGeneration VIII that can be used to teach a Pokémon amove. They are single-use items that are consumed after use, and once a TR is used to teach a Pokémon a move, that move can later be relearned from theMove Reminder for free if forgotten. This makes them functionally similar toTMs inPokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl,Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, and every Pokémon game prior toGeneration V.
InPokémon Sword and Shield, TRs are found in theWild Area, where they can be received as rewards for completingMax Raid Battles or can be exchanged forWatts withWatt Traders throughout the area. InThe Isle of Armor, TRs can be found throughout theisland or created by combining specific items with theCram-o-matic. TRs can also be found across theCrown Tundra.
The ordering of TRs tends to follow the order of introduction of the moves contained in them. However,TR25 (Psyshock) is listed between TRs that contain moves introduced inGeneration II, despite Psyshock being introduced inGeneration V.
Fling can be used if the user is holding a TR. Itspower is equal to the listed power of the contained move, defaulting to 10 if the move does not have a listed power.
