Switcheroo (Japanese:すりかえSecret Switch) is a non-damagingDark-typemove introduced inGeneration IV.

Effect

The user switchesheld items with the target. If only one of them is holding an item, the item is moved to the other.

Switcheroo fails if:

In Link Battles, battle facilities,Secret Bases, and theTrainer House, items stolen will be returned at the end of the battle.

Generation IV

In these generations, Switcheroo fails if either Pokémon hasMultitype or either Pokémon is holding aGriseous Orb.

Generation V onwards

Switcheroo no longer switches a Trainer's Pokémon's items permanently; however, items switched in wild battles are permanently switched.

Switcheroo can now exchange a Griseous Orb, but still fails if either Pokémon holds a Griseous Orb and either Pokémon isGiratina. Switcheroo can now exchange items with a Pokémon that hasMultitype, but still fails if either Pokémon holds aPlate and either Pokémon isArceus.

If powered up by aDarkinium Z into Z-Switcheroo, the user'sSpeed is raised two stages, then the move itself fails after obtaining the Z-Power since it is not possible to exchange a Z-Crystal.

Switcheroo will always fail when used in aMax Raid Battle or aTera Raid Battle, regardless of the items or target. (It works as normal againstDynamax Pokémon in other battles.)

InPokémon Sword and Shield, due to a presumedglitch in accounting for the removal of colored orbs, Switcheroo would fail in versions 1.2.0 through 1.3.1 if it was used by or againstGroudon orKyogre and either the user or the target was not holding an item. This behavior was corrected in version 1.3.2.
