Sunny Day (Japanese:にほんばれClear Sky) is a non-damagingFire-typemove introduced inGeneration II.
It is:
- TM11 from Generation II toPokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, and inPokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.
- TM34 inPokémon Sword and Shield.
- TM049 inPokémon Scarlet and Violet.
Effect
Generation II
When this move is used, thesunlight will brighten the field. This effect will last for 5 turns, during which Pokémon cannot befrozen (though this does not affect when an already-frozen Pokémon thaws). This clears any other type ofweather and is usable even when it's already sunny.
While Sunny Day is in effect, the base power ofFire-type moves will be increased by 50%, and the base power ofWater-type moves will be decreased by 50%. In addition to this, the movesSynthesis,Morning Sun, andMoonlight will recover twice as much HP as under clear conditions,Solar Beam will not require a turn to charge, and the accuracy ofThunder is lowered to 50%.
Generations III and IV
This move now fails when the weather is sunny.
Synthesis,Morning Sun, andMoonlight will now instead recover ⅔ of the user's HP in harsh sunlight. Additionally,Castform (due to itsAbility,Forecast) andWeather Ball become Fire-type.
If aHeat Rock is held when Sunny Day is used, the duration of sunlight lengthens from 5 to 8 turns. Additionally, the following Abilities will have the effects listed while the sun is shining:
- Pokémon with theChlorophyll Ability will have theirSpeed doubled.
- Pokémon with theDry Skin Ability will lose ⅛ of their maximum HP at the end of each turn.
- Pokémon with theFlower Gift Ability will raise the team'sAttack andSpecial Defense by 50%.Cherrim will transform into itsSunshine Form, though this is not tied to Flower Gift itself in Generation IV.
- Pokémon with theSolar Power Ability will have their Special Attack raised by 50% and lose ⅛ of their HP each turn.
- Pokémon with theLeaf Guard Ability will be immune to being inflicted with non-volatilestatus conditions.
Sunny Day can be used as the first move of aPokémon Contest combination, causingBlast Burn,Blaze Kick,Ember,Eruption,Fire Blast,Fire Punch,Fire Spin,Flame Wheel,Flamethrower,Heat Wave,Moonlight,Morning Sun,Overheat,Sacred Fire,SolarBeam,Synthesis,Weather Ball, andWill-O-Wisp to score double the normal appeal if used in the next turn.
Generation V to VIII
Growth now raises the user'sAttack andSpecial Attack by two stages instead of just one.Hurricane's accuracy will be lowered, similarly toThunder.Harvest will never fail to restore a Berry.
Ifheavy rain, extremely harsh sunlight, orstrong winds are present, Sunny Day will fail.
While Sunny Day is in effect,Solar Blade will not require a turn to charge.
Sunny Day can also be used as part of aContest Spectacular combination, causing certain moves (Growth,Moonlight,Morning Sun,Solar Beam,Synthesis, andWeather Ball) to give an extra three appeal points if used in the next turn.
If powered up by aFirium Z into Z-Sunny Day, the user'sSpeed stat is raised by one stage.
Generation IX
Sunny Day can no longer override weather in the overworld.
