Steel Beam (Japanese:てっていこうせんBeam of Steely Resolve) is a damage-dealingSteel-typemove introduced inGeneration VIII. It isTM170 inPokémon Scarlet and Violet andTM157 inPokémon Legends: Z-A.
Effect
Steel Beam inflicts damage, and the user takes damage equal to half of its maximumHP rounded up (unless it hasMagic Guard).
The user of Steel Beam will take damage even if the target isprotected from it, if it hits asubstitute, or if the move misses. If Steel Beam fails due to there being no targets (i.e. if all Pokémon in range fainted before the move was used), the user does not take damage.
Rock Head andReckless do not affect Steel Beam.

- In April 2019, prior to the release ofPokémon Sword and Shield,CoroCoro Comics May ran a contest where fans could name the strongest Steel-type move.[1] Steel Beam's Japanese name was the name that won this contest.[2]
