Effect
InPokémon Platinum, it can be exchanged withMr. Fuego inFuego Ironworks for one of each color ofShard.
InUnova, it can be exchanged with a man inAnville Town for aPP Up (only onSaturday and Sunday).
Three Star Pieces and an additional item can be inserted into theCram-o-matic to produce aComet Shard.

Star Pieces can be obtained by purchasingspecial boxes that are available in the in-game shop during special events.
Additionally, the player receives a Star Piece when completing part 3 of the Special Research "A Mythical Discovery", part 5 of the Special Research "A Ripple in Time", and part 8 of the Special Research "Let's GO, Meltan".

Star Piece was introduced as aPokémon Tool card in thePokémon Trading Card Game during the English e-Card Series (the Japanese e-Card Era) in theSkyridge expansion.
At any time between turns, if the Pokémon this card is attached to is Benched and has 2 or more damage counters on it, the player may place the appropriate Evolution card from their deck on top of that Pokémon. This counts as evolving that Pokémon.
Trivia
- Meloetta is programmed to always hold a Star Piece when encountered in thewild inPokémon Black and White. However, Meloetta cannot be found in the wild in these games.
