Effect
Snarl deals damage and lowers theSpecial Attack of all targets hit by one stage. Snarl hits all adjacent opponents inTriple Battles.
Snarl is asound-based move.
Snarl cannot be called byMetronome.
Generation V
If used on a Pokémon behind asubstitute, it hits that Pokémon's substitute.
Generation VI onwards
Snarl can now hit Pokémon even if they are behind a substitute.
Generation VIII
Pokémon Legends: Arceus
Snarl's power has been increased to 60, and it lowers the target's offensive stats for three turns. It can also only hit one target, like all other moves in this game.

Trivia
- Prior to the release ofPokémon Black 2 and White 2, this move had a very unique distribution, being simultaneously aTM and anevent-exclusive move due toTM95 not being available yet. Thus the only way to give many Pokémon Snarl at the time was to receive the eventZoroark listed above, then pass down the move viabreeding, chain breeding, orSketch, taking advantage of the fact that TM moves can be passed down. Outside ofVolt Tackle, this was the only case where a move that is not anEgg Move required breeding to obtain.
- Snarl is the only variant ofIcy Wind that does not lower the target'sSpeed.
- Snarl is the only damage-dealingsound-based move with an accuracy below 100%.
