Aseries (Japanese:シリーズseries) of thePokémon animated series is a collection ofepisodes that corresponds roughly to a specificgeneration ofgames.

In Asia (including Japan), there are currently eight series.^[1]^[2] These generally match the title used for those episodes of the TV series in broadcast and home video releases, although there are cases where they have gone under a different title (such asPocket Monsters Episode: Orange Islands,Pocket MonstersBest Wishes! Season 2, andPocket Monsters XY&Z).

In the West, there are currently nine series.^[3] This distinction was not properly made untilPokémon the Series: XY, which introduced a name for the series, being followed by some older series retroactively receiving similar names inhome video box sets andvideo-on-demand releases. Unlike in Japan, the TV series is more often divided intoseasons, which are the primary titles used by episodes of the TV series in broadcast and home video releases. Since4Kids Entertainment stopped dubbing the animated series, seasons have never contained episodes from more than one series, being cut off at series divisions.
