Scary Face (Japanese:こわいかおScary Face) is a non-damagingNormal-typemove introduced inGeneration II. It wasTM26 inPokémon Sword and Shield, and isTM006 inPokémon Scarlet and Violet.
Effect
Generation II
Scary Face lowers the target'sSpeed stat by two stages. Scary Face's accuracy is 90%.
In the Generation IIcore series games, when an in-game opponent outside of theBattle Tower uses Scary Face, the move has a 25% chance to fail in addition to its normal chance to miss.
Generations III to IV
Scary Face can be used as the first move of aPokémon Contest combination, causingBite,Crunch,Leer, andSuper Fang to score double the normal appeal if used in the next turn. It can also be used to finish a combination, with the user gaining 2 bonus appeal points ifLeer orRage was used in the previous turn.
Generation V onwards
Scary Face's accuracy was changed from 90% to 100%.
If powered up by aNormalium Z into Z-Scary Face, the user'sSpeed stat is raised by one stage.
Outside of battle
If aKyurem that knows Scary Face fuses with eitherReshiram orZekrom via theDNA Splicers, the move will be replaced byFusion Flare orFusion Bolt. Reversing the fusion will perform the inverse of these move transformations.
Since Generation VIII, due to Scary Face being taught by TM, Kyurem can learn Scary Face even if fused. If a fused Kyurem that knows Scary Face is separated, it will forget Scary Face before Fusion Flare or Fusion Bolt is replaced.
