Asand tile is a special tile that can be found in the beach anddesert areas of thePokémon games. There are two types of sand tile: regular and deep.
Normal sand
Normal sand does not have any wild Pokémon, so it is very similar to a regular tile. Walking or running over sand leaves footprints, whilecycling leaves a tire track; both disappear shortly after appearing.
Deep sand
Deep sand is a special type of sand that appears inPokémon Ruby, Sapphire,Emerald,Black, White,Black 2, and White 2. By entering patches of deep sand, wild Pokémon may appear and battle the player, making it the desert equivalent oftall grass. InHoenn, it is found in thedesert section ofRoute 111. InUnova, it is found onRoute 4 and in theDesert Resort. In Generation V, it slows down thebicycle to speeds slower than the walking speed.
InPokémon Sun, Moon,Ultra Sun, and Ultra Moon, wild Pokémon can be encountered in the sand ofHaina Desert. However, this sand is not deep sand, as the player does not sink into it.
