Contents

In the core series games

Pokémon Sword and Shield

The Rotom Phone functions as themenu interface inPokémon Sword and Shield. From the Rotom Phone, players can access theirparty,Bag,Town Map,Pokédex,League Card, options, andsave their game. They can also set upCamp in most areas once they obtainCamping Gear from theirmum. If the player connects to the internet, they can also accessMystery Gift orVictory Station.

The Rotom itself can also power the motor in theRotom Bike, allowing the player to travel faster, and after an upgrade, over water as well. Unlike theRotom Pokédex, the Rotom Phone does not speak during the storyline, but does prompt the player where to go next, and alerts them to happenings in theWild Area, such asweather patterns.

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet

InPokémon Scarlet and Violet, the player can access their Map, Pokédex, and Profile from the Rotom Phone menu. After obtaining the Rotom Phone, it will come out when opening the main menu. Additionally, should the player fall from a great height, the player will hold onto their Rotom Phone to slow their fall before impacting the ground.

Camera app

The player can take photos with their Rotom Phone in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet using the front or back cameras via the camera app. This function can be used to change the player's profile picture or Trainer icon. Filters or touch-ups can be applied to make photos more dynamic. The player can make numerous faces and poses while taking a selfie. Other players invited through theUnion Circle can also appear in photos, in which they can make their own preset gestures that can be done at any time in the overworld. Many of these gestures can be unlocked through certain tasks and side quests; some are references to previous characters or games, such asLeon'sCharizard pose. Like in Legends: Arceus, photos are saved to the system's memory or SD Card.

InThe Teal Mask, the player can obtain theRoto-Stick, which can expand the camera's field of vision in selfie mode. The ability to play three different music tracks through the Rotom Phone's radio is also unlocked, allowing the player to take photos with certainNPCs and change their expression depending on the track that is being played.

InThe Indigo Disk, by donatingBP to thePhotography Club in theLeague Club Room, the player can unlock frames and special effects to apply to photos.

The camera function is activated by pressing the Down Button. The controls for the various camera functions are as follows:

Pokémon Legends: Z-A

A new Rotom Phone appears inPokémon Legends: Z-A, once again sporting a similar yet altered design.[1] This Rotom Phone carries three camera lenses. Due to allsync pairs onPasio receiving aPoryphone, most characters do not use Rotom Phones in Pokémon Masters EX. However,Raihan is shown holding his Rotom Phone in his model and occasionally uses it to take selfies. When he is raised to6★ EX, the color of his Rotom Phone case changes to gold. He also carries his Rotom Phone in his anniversary outfit, but it does not change color when he is raised to 6★ EX in this outfit. Once the player reaches friendship level 100 withRaihan in theTrainer Lodge, they can purchase a replica of a magenta Rotom Phone in the Lodge Exchange to display in the Trainer Lodge.

In random Pokémon Center conversations,Jacq mentions that he developed a Pokédex app for Rotom Phones inPaldea, whileRei mentions Rotom Phones as an example of a Pokémon-related phone fromGalar.
