Generation IV
When a Pokémon with Rivalry uses an attack, the attack'spower is raised by 25% if the target and the user have the samegender, and is reduced by 25% if the target and the user have opposite genders. Rivalry also powers upconfusion damage.
Rivalry has no effect if the user or target isgender unknown (such asPorygon).
Generation V onward
Rivalry no longer powers upconfusion damage.
Outside of battle
Rivalry has no effect outside of battle.
Pokémon with Rivalry
In other games
InExplorers of Time, Darkness andSky, and theMystery Dungeon (WiiWare) games, when the attacker's gender is opposite of the target, the Attack stat is reduced by one stage, and if it's matching, it's increased by one stage.
InGates to Infinity andPokémon Super Mystery Dungeon, Rivalry increases the power of a move when attacking a Pokémon that shares a type. In Super Mystery Dungeon, Rivalry increases the power of a move by 20%.
