Regirock (Japanese:レジロックRegirock) is aRock-typeLegendary Pokémon introduced inGeneration III.

It is not known toevolve into or from any other Pokémon.

It is a member of thelegendary giants along withRegice,Registeel,Regieleki, andRegidrago.

Biology

Regirock is a large golem-likePokémon made of brown and orange rocks, granting it adurable physique. It has a pattern of seven orange dots on its face that resembles a capital letter "H". It has long arms with jutting shoulders and club-like hands without fingers. There is a line of orange rocky spines running down its back, and its legs are short in comparison to its body.

According to legend, Regirock was created by theLegendary PokémonRegigigas using rocks. It used to be worshipped byhumans, however, at some point, ancient people started fearing its power and sealed it away. InHoenn, it was sealed in theDesert Ruins; inSinnoh, it was sealed in theRock Peak Ruins; and inGalar, it was sealed in theRock Peak Ruins. When it gets damaged in battle, it will search for new rocks to repair itself. Because of this, the rocks it is made of come from several different places around the world, which contributes to Regirock's patchwork appearance. Recently, cutting-edge technology has found that Regirock is entirely made of stone and rock; not even a heart or a brain was found.

Trivia

Origin

Regirock may be based on thegolems of Hebrew legend. The legends cast them as servants of higher powers and are said to have writing on their heads. When the writing is removed, the creature would be weakened, or even killed in some legends. Regirock's face that consists of seven dots may be based onBraille alphabet which was necessary to use to encounter thelegendary giants for the first time inSealed Chamber.

The five legendary giants may be collectively themed after historical epochs, with Regirock representing theStone Age.

Name origin

Regirock may be a combination ofregis (Latin for royal) androck.
