A Pokémon may need to skip a turn torecharge after using certain moves.
Effect
| This move effect may be in need of research. Reason:What happens if a Pokémon's last "move" was the recharge turn and it is then targeted by Mimic (Gen 2 onwards), Mirror Move, Me First, or Encore? You candiscuss this on the talk page. |
After successfully using any of themoves listed below, the user's next turn will be automatically skipped as a "recharge" turn.
During the recharge turn, the user will be unable to:
- Open their list ofmoves or use any move.
- Open theirBag or use anyitem.
- Open theirparty, a Pokémon'ssummary, orswitch Pokémon.
- Run from awild Pokémon battle.
Apoisoned Pokémon will still lose HP in the recharge turn. Aconfused Pokémon will not hit itself in the recharge turn. The recharge turn does not count for the number of turns remaining fromsleep, confusion, orDisable. The recharge turn counts for theTimer Ball'scatch rate modifier.
In the recharge turn, automated actions fromheld items are still activated, such as gainingHP if the user is holdingLeftovers. If the user hasTruant, the recharge and "loafing around" take place on the same turn. If the user'sParental Bond causes a recharging move to strike twice, the user will still only need to recharge for one turn.
Copycat ignores recharge turns, and can be used to copy the move used before a recharge turn.Instruct fails if the target is currently recharging or if the target's latest move will require recharging next turn. The recharge turn counts for the number of turns remaining fromFuture Sight orDoom Desire, and these moves can hit their target in a recharge turn.
In battles involving multiple Pokémon on the same side (Double Battle,Triple Battle, as well as wild Pokémon in aHorde Encounter, etc.), each Pokémon's recharge turn does not affect the actions of its allies. However, in aRotation Battle, the recharge turn will be skipped normally before the user can rotate Pokémon.
Generation I
A recharge turn is not required if the move breaks asubstitute, knocks out the target, the user is targeted by abinding move (even if it misses), the userflinches, or the user is put tosleep after the move but before the recharge turn. However, freeze does not prevent the need for the recharge turn of Hyper Beam.
InPokémon Stadium, a recharge turn is required every time the move is used.
Generation II onwards
A recharge turn will always be required if the move hits, even if the target is knocked out, unless the battle is completed in that turn.
