Additional effects

If themoveMiracle Eye affects aDark-type Pokémon, its immunity to Psychic-type attacks will be removed.

WhenPsychic Terrain (introduced inGeneration VII) is in effect, thepower of Psychic-type moves is increased by 30% (50% prior toGeneration VIII) if the user isgrounded.

Generation I balance issues

In theGeneration I games, Psychic-type Pokémon were at the center of a balance issue.[1] This issue was rectified inGeneration II, with the addition of theSteel andDark types as well as more moves that are strong against Psychic-types.

Additionally, Psychic-type Pokémon were immune toGhost-type moves instead of being weak to them, although thePsychic Johan's statement inSaffron Gym suggests that this was unintended. However, his dialogue was adjusted in the English version ofPokémon Yellow to reflect the observed behavior, whereas the Japanese versions preserved the original text fromPokémon Red, Green, andBlue.

In the TCG

Main article:Psychic (TCG)

Due to the decreased amount of types in the TCG, Psychic generally adopts allGhost-type Pokémon under its typing. It also adoptedPoison-type Pokémon after theDiamond & Pearl set, whereas previously they were a part of theGrass-type, though they would later be incorporated intoDarkness fromSword & Shield onward.Fairy-type Pokémon were also adopted intoPsychic starting in the same set.

Psychic-type Pokémon in the TCG are generally weak toDarkness,Metal, and other Psychic Pokémon (until Sword & Shield), with a Resistance toFighting. Psychic-type Pokémon are strong againstFighting,Grass (until Diamond & Pearl), andPsychic Pokémon (until Sword & Shield), whilstColorless,Darkness andMetal Pokémon can resist this type.
