This article is about the TCG type. For the Trainer class that appeared in the TCG, seeSeer (Aquapolis 133).

ThePsychic type (Japanese:(ちょう)ESP) is one of the elevenTCG types. It is represented by the color purple, and symbolized by an open eye.

The Psychic type contains mostPsychic- andGhost-type Pokémon found in the main series video games. For example,Alakazam andCofagrigus are Psychic types in the TCG.

From theDiamond & Pearl set until theSword & Shield set,Poison-type Pokémon were grouped in with the Psychic type. For example, anyGarbodor cards printed during this time would have been Psychic types in the TCG. Previously, Poison types were grouped in withGrass, and they are now grouped in withDarkness.

Prior toSword & Shield, Psychic-types in the TCG were often weak to other Psychic-types. According to the game's director,Atsushi Nagashima, players often found this complicated and difficult to understand, and from Sword & Shield onward, Psychic Pokémon cards based on both Psychic- and Ghost-types are weak to Darkness.[1]

Additionally, starting in Sword & Shield,Fairy-type Pokémon are now grouped in with the Psychic type instead of havingtheir own energy type. For example,Alcremie is a Psychic type in the TCG.

The correspondingBasic Energy card isBasic Psychic Energy. Where thePsychic symbol appears in an attackcost, it indicates that a Psychic Energy must be attached to the Pokémon in order for the Pokémon to use that attack.
