Team Magma,Team Aqua and thePrimal Reversion forms ofGroudon andKyogre

Project AZOTH (Japanese:プロジェクト AZOTHProject AZOTH) is a project created byTeam MagmaOR/Team AquaAS to bring the world back to its beginnings by utilizing thePrimal Reversion ofGroudonOR/KyogreAS. It is the basis of their plans inPokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire. This plan was inspired by thevillainous teams researching theultimate weapon created byAZ and theInfinity Energy it produced 3,000 years ago.

In the games

Originally, the plan was to return the world to its primordial state by awakening eitherPrimalGroudon (byTeam Magma inPokémon Omega Ruby) or PrimalKyogre (byTeam Aqua inPokémon Alpha Sapphire). To achieve this, thevillainous organizations conducted research and developed technology to break the seal on theSeafloor Cavern, where theLegendary Pokémon rested, usingstolen equipment from theDevon Corporation, allowing them to break the seal with use ofInfinity Energy. Once they gained access, the team's leader, Magma LeaderMaxie or Aqua LeaderArchie, used theRed Orb orBlue Orb, respectively, to awaken thesuper-ancient Pokémon and trigger itsPrimal Reversion. They were taught this method by a disguisedZinnia, who secretly used the organization to awaken theSuper-ancient Pokémon in an attempt to lure outRayquaza in preparation forGrand Meteor Delta's arrival.[1]

However, after the Pokémon awakens, the opposing team's leader reveals that restoring the world to its original state would require the Legendary Pokémon to annihilate all life on the planet. Realizing the catastrophic consequences of their actions, Maxie or Archie repents and abandons Project AZOTH, choosing instead to help theplayer stop the rampaging Pokémon.

Even after their leaders' change of heart, Team Magma'sCourtney or Team Aqua'sMatt remains committed to completing the project. During theDelta Episode, they lead a squad ofGrunts in a raid on theMossdeep Space Center, stealing the dimensional shifter. Their plan is to use aKey Stone to resonate with the rocket'sInfinity Energy, originally meant to warp an incomingmeteoroid intoanotherdimension, and cause it to explode, thus reverting the world to its beginnings. However, after being defeated in battle by the player andSteven,Aster snatches the dimensional shifter, andZinnia destroys it before stealing their Key Stone, ending their final attempt to carry out the plan.

Project AZOTH files

"PROJECT AZOTH File No. 1 The goal of Project AZOTH is to return the world—return everything—to the beginning. In order to further the project, we must proceed with research on Groudon'sOR/Kyogre'sAS Primal Reversion. Primal Reversion is a potential of PokémonEvolution, a potential different fromMega Evolution. Mega Evolution is made possible by the energy of people and Pokémon. Primal Reversion is made possible by natural energy. In Primal Reversion, GroudonOR/KyogreAS absorbs natural energy into its body, thereby increasing its power dramatically. Both states significantly enhance Pokémon's power: the difference lies in the source of the required energy."
"PROJECT AZOTH File No. 2 We intend to analyze the power of theultimate weapon used inKalos 3,000 years ago and work on the development of a drill weapon utilizing the technology. TheSeafloor Cavern is sealed by the power of aLegendary Pokémon. The only way to gain access to the cavern is to break the seal with power that exceeds that of the Pokémon. According to the report from thePetalburg recon team,Devon Corporation holds the secret of the technology of the ultimate weapon. We will dedicate all our resources to obtain this technology."
