Professor Laventon (Japanese:ラベン博士Dr. Laven) is a travellingPokémon Professor who studies in theHisui region. He is a member of theGalaxy Team's Survey Corps and specializes inPokémon's modes of life.
In the core series games
Pokémon Legends: Arceus
Professor Laventon finds theplayer onPrelude Beach after they have fallen through thespace-time rift. The appearance of the player has attracted the interest of the Professor's threefirst partner Pokémon. After the player awakens, the Pokémon run away and the Professor tasks the player with recapturing them. Impressed by their skill he takes the player toJubilife Village to recruit them into theGalaxy Team's Survey Corps.
For most of the game, Professor Laventon can be found at allbase camps or his laboratory inGalaxy Hall. The player can report their latest survey results by speaking to Laventon, which entails any Pokémon caught andresearch tasks completed since the last report. He will then reward the player withmoney andresearch points based on these results.
ThePokédex entries in Pokémon Legends: Arceus are written by Laventon. Incidentally, he coined the term "scalchop" forOshawott's signature seashell and the term "aura" forLucario's signature energy wave control power. Laventon also observed thatUnown resemble human writing from other lands, though no one takes him seriously.
Pokémon Scarlet and Violet
Professor Laventon makes a cameo inPokémon Scarlet and Violet. During Ms.Raifort's history classes, a photo of Laventon appears on the classroom board as part of a timeline on thehistory and development of the Poké Ball.
