Professor Takao Cozmo (Japanese:ソライシ・タカオ博士Dr. Takao Soraishi) is a character inPokémon Ruby, Sapphire,Emerald,Omega Ruby, and Alpha Sapphire. He is a meteoriticist who lives inFallarbor Town.
In the games

Professor Cozmo leaves either withTeam MagmaREOR orTeam AquaSAS for theMeteor Falls, thinking that they are going to help him excavate meteors. However, the offending team steals theMeteorite, intending to use it to power their machine atMt. Chimney. InGeneration III, after defeating the Grunts and the team's leader, the player can take the Meteorite from the machine and return it to the Professor in exchange forTM27 (Return). InGeneration VI, the player keeps the Meteorite for themselves after receiving it from the defeated team leader.
InPokémon Omega Ruby and Pokémon Alpha Sapphire Special Demo Version's first scenario, Takao appears inMossdeep Space Center, asking forOrlando andSteven's help.
In Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire proper, notes inSea Mauville reveal that Takao's father, Raizoh, was a researcher forGreater Mauville Holdings and theDevon Corporation who spent nearly all his time working, apparently causing his marriage to unravel. One of the few things Raizoh had to remind him of his son was a HiSkitty doll the latter had sent to Sea Mauville. The retrieval of that doll proves to be the object of the Sea Mauville sidequest. Takao used to live inRustboro, but at some time moved, possibly toFallarbor. The letters also mention that Takao's father had once given him aShelgon, but once it evolved intoSalamence, Takao was disappointed that it no longer looked like a Meteorite andtraded it for a friend'sSolrock. He also received a telescope from his father.
In Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire'sDelta Episode, Professor Cozmo works at the Mossdeep Space Center to help stop thegiant meteoroid that's on a collision course with the planet. After noticing the meteoroid's approach at the beginning of the episode, he enlists the help of Steven Stone and the player in retrieving himMeteorite Shards required to power the device intended to warp the meteoroid somewhere else. However, this plan is ruined whenZinnia, believing the warp hole will just transport the meteoroid intoanother universe to be its problem, destroys the device, much to Cozmo's shock. Once the player has successfully destroyed the meteoroid withRayquaza's help, Cozmo is seen celebrating the good news at the Space Center.
After the Delta Episode, Professor Cozmo can be found at his home in Fallarbor, where will give the player aGalladite. He also mentions that he intends to forward the new information found by the player toProfessor Sycamore. Takao mentions he is friends with Sycamore, as the two worked together a few years prior to the events of the game, researching Meteorites at Meteor Falls.[3]

Pokémon the Series

Professor Cozmo appeared in thePokémon the Series: Ruby and Sapphire episodeFight for the Meteorite!, whereAsh met him at Mt. Chimney. Similar to thegames,Team Magma was trying to get their hands on the Meteorite he had just found there, eventually succeeding in doing so. The Meteorite was placed inside of a machine in an attempt to make thevolcano erupt. As Ash was unable to break the Meteorite's container, Professor Cozmo decided to push the whole machine down into the crater instead, choosing to rather lose the Meteorite than let thevillainous team possess it. Afterwards, he guided Ash andhis friends to take theJagged Pass down toLavaridge Town, wishing Ash good luck in his upcomingGymbattle at theLavaridge Gym.
