Princess Festival

ThePrincess Festival (Japanese:ポケモンひなまつりPokémon Girls' Festival) is a holiday celebrated annually throughout theKantoregion on March 3 (the date is not stated in the dub). It is the equivalent of thereal-world Japanese holidayHinamatsuri.
Like in the real world, it is traditional for girls to display a set of ornamental dolls representing theHeian period. It is commemorated by various events, activities, and sales geared towards women. During the Princess Festival, there are drastic discounts at stores and restaurants for women only.
The Princess Festival was featured inPrincess vs. Princess. While visitingO-Hina Town,Misty andJessie reminisced about past Princess Festivals and entered the annualQueen of the Princess Festival, a competition where the winner receives a special collection ofPokémon dolls.

The Queen of the Princess Festival is a girls-only competition that is the main attraction of the Princess Festival. It consists of a beauty pageant followed by a battle tournament.

- The episode featuring this festival was originally intended to first air in Japan on the date of the real-world holiday it is based on, but said episode was rescheduled following theEP038 incident, causing it to air out of order.
