Primo (Japanese:ハジメHajime) is anon-player character that appears inPokémon FireRed and LeafGreen andPokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver.
InGeneration III, his real name is not mentioned, and Primo is known simply as thePoké Dude (Japanese:テレビのおにいさんTV Dude). His name is revealed when he appears inGeneration IV. Primo is the grandson of theold man inViridian City who teaches the player how to catch Pokémon inGeneration I and gives theTeachy TV inFireRed and LeafGreen.
Outside of the games, Primo is the face ofPokémon Daisuki Club website's subsection onHeartGold and SoulSilver.
In the core series games
Generation III

Primo appears inFireRed and LeafGreen as the host of thePoké Dude Show (renamedThe Show Me Show inHeartGold and SoulSilver, even though the show itself is absent from these games). This television show broadcast on theTeachy TV and is aimed at Trainers who have just begun their Pokémon journeys. Primo instructs theplayer on six key gameplay elements:

Generation IV

At some point between GenerationsIII andIV, Primo moved fromKanto toJohto. InHeartGold and SoulSilver, he is first found inViolet City'sPokémon Center. If theplayer tells Primo a secret combination of words (using theeasy chat system), they will be given a newPC Boxwallpaper or aPokémon Egg. There are eight wallpapers available, and three Eggs: aMareep, aWooper and aSlugma. All of the passwords required to receive these gifts are dependent on the player'sTrainer ID number, and were officially made available for Japanese games from theBox Wallpaper Present! andTeach Me, Poké Dude! pages on thePokémon Daisuki Club website.Online generators have since been created to provide these phrases for any game.
Primo will sometimes compete in the Power course of thePokéathlon.
