Pin Missile (Japanese:ミサイルばりMissile Needle) is a damage-dealingBug-typemultistrike move introduced inGeneration I. It wasTM07 inPokémon Sword and Shield.

Effect

Generation I

Pin Missile inflicts damage, hitting the target 2-5 times per use. There is a 37.5% chance that it will hit 2 times, a 37.5% chance that it will hit 3 times, a 12.5% chance that it will hit 4 times, and a 12.5% chance that it will hit 5 times. Although only the first strike can be acritical hit, each successive one will deal the same amount of damage.

In this generation only, Pin Missile will end immediately if it breaks asubstitute.Bide andCounter will only acknowledge the last strike of this move.

Pin Missile has a base power of 14 and an accuracy of 85%.

Generation II

All strikes now do damage independently, consequently enabling any of them to be a critical hit. Pin Missile may now continue attacking after breaking a substitute.

If the user is holding aKing's Rock, the final strike has a chance to cause the opponent toflinch.

Generations III and IV

Pokémon with the AbilitySkill Link will always hit five times when using Pin Missile, if it does not miss.

If the user is holding aKing's Rock orRazor Fang, each consecutive hit has an equal chance to cause the opponent toflinch.

Generation V

There is now a 35% chance that it will hit 2 times, a 35% chance it will hit 3 times, a 15% chance it will hit 4 times, and a 15% chance it will hit 5 times. The average total base power (including the 15% base miss chance) is now 36.9.

If aFocus Sash activates before the last strike is dealt, the following strike will cause the defending Pokémon to faint. AFocus Band can still activate repeatedly to prevent fainting, but each chance is independent.Sturdy will activate with each hit if the defending Pokémon has a maximum HP of 1.

If the target hasWeak Armor, each strike will activate it.

Generation VI onwards

Pin Missile now has a base power of 25 and an accuracy of 95%. Provided that the move does not miss, it now has an average total base power of 79.2. Including the 5% base miss chance, the average total base power is now 73.6.

If the target hasStamina, each strike will activate it.

Generation VIII

Pokémon Legends: Arceus

The attack hits once and leaves the target with splinters for 4 turns (Strong Style), 2 turns (Agile Style), or 3 turns (otherwise).

Pin Missile inflicts damage, hitting the target 2-5 times per use. Each hit has a separate accuracy check, though the move will continue even when a hit fails. The move's critical-hit rate is reduced (1% in the Rescue Team, Explorers and Adventure Squad series).

Prior toGates to Infinity, if a targeted Pokémon faints in middle of the attack, the remaining projectiles will be able to hit a new target. Starting inSuper Mystery Dungeon, if aReviver Seed activates, the move will end.
