Origin
Despite its name, Pidgeotto does not resemble apigeon so much as abird of prey such as anosprey or aneagle due to its large size and predatory behavior. It also shares some characteristics with variouspasserine birds such assparrows, chickadees, waxwings, andwrens. Its redcrest is somewhat similar to the crests ofcockatoos. The black markings around its eyes are reminiscent ofRa andHorus, the sun and sky gods ofEgyptian mythology who were depicted with the heads offalcons.
Name origin
Pidgeotto may be a combination ofpigeon and the Italiandiminutive suffix-otto. It is also very similar to the romanized spelling ofPidgeot's Japanese name, ピジョットpijotto.
